Seals
« on: Apr 29, 2009, 05:04:43 PM »
When replacing seals such as a rear main, should you put high temp RV around the outside?  I've put two in it and they come out enough drip oil.  One seal was after market, the other was from Toyota.  Or does someone make a retainer? :qtip:

Are you talking about putting RTV around the OD of the rear main seal? If so that is a no no. Mabye you pushed the seal in to far or you hit it in crooked. The only place you need some RTV on the rear main is the metal part that houses the seal on the bottom flat part that mates up with the oil pan. All this info is assuming you have a 20r or 22r re. By the looks of your avitar its a 90s runner not sure if you have a 2.4 or a 3.0. But all the info i gave you should work on all 4 cyls. Tell me if that helps or if you need more info.

That helps.  I have not done put RV on any seals, It was just a thought. I put a re-man 3.0 bored .30 over in a year ago and it seems to leak any and everywhere on the back side.  It could just be my valve cover as I learned from another thread.  I will replace the valve cover gasket and degrease everything and go from there. thanks
