i stayed open in the front w/ 37's and never broke a birf. depending on how you wheel i would say 35 locked in the front is the biggest to go w/ stock birfs.

Conventional wisdom says 33s max before re-gearing, mostly not due to breaking(35s plus there) - but it'll run like a fat pig with stock gears and 35s.

i've been running 37s on stockers on my DD for the past year and a half and have only broken one birf... when i had a single case i mashed hard and never broke. i didn't break until i got my duals and where i broke was a joke spot. i knew it was going to happen but i just didn't connect it with my foot to get off the gas... as for running like a pig, not so much. it takes getting used to around town but a day or two into it and your golden. getting on the freeway is sketchy sometimes but 95% of the time its cool. its nice having the long gearing on the freeway once you get up to about 65-70 and you can fly. i pass people all day long on the freeway... since im broke as joke with no income and cant afford upgraded birfs or gears, i know what kind of boat you are getting into. its really not that bad. people get all theses ideas from what they HEAR but a good portion of the time what the argument is over is not a big deal. ideally it would be nice to run 30-spline longs, 5.29's with ARB's would be the legit ideal set up, but sometimes you just have to ball on a budget and get it done

edit: hope this is good info that your looking for   :beerchug:

ive got 36's with 4.88 and a lockrite in the front, and blew up a stock birf on the first trip out in soft dirt, stock sucks, im gonna try a set of cheap ass trail gear 27 spline crap.  its for the daily driver, the crawler already has 30 sp longs!

With my 35" BFG Muds I was fine.  As soon as I went up to 37" Boggers I started busting them nearly every time I went wheeling.  I guess if I was more careful they would have survived but....what fun is that?

If your running an open front end it shouldn't be an issue
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

35" w/ 4:88 and Aussie lockers at each end. KEEP YOUR TOE OFF THE THROTTLE, and you'll keep the stock 'Birfs' for as long as I have (going on 9years ).

I ran 35" with 5.29/ lockers and stock stock birf for two years and haven't broke yet. I have three wheeling trips on the 36" IROKS and still no brakeage  :crossed:. I have a light foot and am carefull how my tires are pointed when I back up.It will catch up with me one day just trying to save up the money for the 30 spline Longs.

Well I'm glad somebody asked! It sounds like most of you have had this discussion before -perhaps many times before! I'm getting ready to put 36" Super Swamper TSL SX's on my 1980 with stock bf's. Good info for us newbies.
