i got oil in my radiator in my 20r and it spudders im thinking the spudderin is the fuel but propbly the head gasket does that sound about right??

I would bargain to say you put your oil under the wrong cap..... maybe

zippo

compression test the cylinders. It will tell you whats what. Atleast a 20R is an easy headgasket redo. another simple test is to take a peace of paper and hold it slighty infront the exhaust pipe. If it slapps back to the pipe you have a miss. also a sign of a bad head gasket/miss.
If you see it, its for sale.

Only time I've had oil in my anti-freeze is due to a blown head gasket.   :twocents:

my educated guess is head gasket is bad

TIMS89CRAWLER

yes oil in the radiator would prolly mean blown head gasket or cracked head/block.... most likely just the gasket though... be sure to get the head shaved if you change the gasket or at least check it wouldnt hurt to have it pressure tested either!

just take off enough to make it smooth again, 20R blocks are so thick it would have to get unbelievably HOT and then dump lots of COLD water into the engine to have it crack,  they are near bullet proof

i drove my truck with a 20R,  150 miles once with a blowed HG,  i had to keep the radiator cap off so the exhaust could get out, yes you heard right, :ack: i would drive 10 miles and have to stop and fill the radiator, 3 or 4 times i drove till the temp guage got all the way into the red, 2 times i pulled into a gas station stuck the hose in and filled with cold water, the steam would come SWOOSHING out :yikes:

i wouldnt try that with a 22R block, but that particular 20R was later put in a friends 2wd pickup, and he still has it

it doesnt run hot or go threw water it just spidders and dies somtimes at a stop sign when at idel

TIMS89CRAWLER

i would suggest just starting with the head gasket and see what that does

well what matters is that oil is in your radiator which is not good...
probably means an oil jacket is mixing with your water jacket.  is your oil milky?

its possible  your coolant just has  some slight oil in it,  do a compression test before you go pulling the engine apart and post the results here

k ill try that but....whats up with the spuddering and i put fluid in it and drained it a few times but seemed there wasnt much or any oil in it just look bad when i first drained it when i got the truck its weird

79coyotefrg

spuddering could be a  dirty carburator, or  fouled spark plugs

take the compression test, if they are all say 100 psi, 105psi,110 psi, 95 psi,  thats close enough, weak but good

you want to have ALL  the spark plugs out but remember what hole they were in and note what color they are, if they are oily or have dark carbon, or a whitish discoloration means coolant burning

k sounds good ...i did a compleat tune up on her but ya it could be a dirty carb.  ...mainly spudders when im like going slower then 35 or in 4th gear and when i stop it revs up but not a high rev almost a hear more then regular idel then starts to spudder and dies somtimes when at a stop without foot on gas

TIMS89CRAWLER

ya I would suggest cleaning the carb to start.... that sounds like part of the problem and it never hurts to have a clean carb anyways  let us know how it goes man

choke might not be disengaging and causing a bad air to gas ratio
