I saw a early 90's 4runner along the road, with its hood up.  And it was steaming like it was over heated.  So, another 3.0 blew it head gasket!!  :rofl2:

When you spend more on oil than gas?

Rocksurfer

you don't need to lube the IFS since it is covered in oil.

You go through more water/coolant in a week than gas.
Bobbed 84 xtra cab, pickin up parts as I go.

If at first you do not succeed, put it in 4low and try again.

I was thinking about all the work I've done on my 3.0s, and decided to make this list.

1. you change your headgaskets more often than your oil

2. you cry when it is time to change your spark plugs.

3. a simple tuneup becomes a full day affair.

4. You discover that it is easier to swap engines than to change head gaskets

5. A conversation centered around "Whats that smell and or noise?" "Oh, nothing, it always does that"  is normal.

6. You don't find it strange at all to regularly have to pull over, let the truck cool down, and add water in a 40 mile trip

7. You've wheeled through the 'con with the hood off, to solve your overheating problem.

8. you get worried when that squealing sound stops.

9. you don't have to buy parts anymore, because you've stripped down at least 2 motors in the last year :smack:

10.  you still claim that it is a decent motor

11. the best 3.0 you've ever had leaks like a sieve, has an unknown number of miles, and seems to be held together by nothing more than spit, duct tape, zip ties, permatex, and blood

12. you discovered you were double jointed when changing your oil filter

13. 3.0 is a 4 letter word in your house

14. you've actually considered going back to a carburated 22r

Added 8/15/06

15. You can run all the vacuum lines right the first time without even glancing at a book

16. It seems the more leftover parts you have, the better it runs

17. Youryou've stumped the toyota advice guy at the local dealership with your questions

18. WTF? is used when something actually does make sense, it is so rare.

19. More people are sketchy about wheelin with you because of your motor, not your IFS

You just set a new record for not working on your motor...2 weeks

Passing Smog the first time is like winning the lottery, the odds are miniscule.  (and I did, so there goes my chances of winning the lottery)

Goes with the one above, but... You're shocked when it passes smog.

It takes you 1 1/2 hours to take out the thermostat!!

The Haynes and Chilton books say that you have to remove the fan, belts, and front timing cover to get to the thermostat! (you don't )

You know know for sure that Cursing loudly and proficiently at whatever you are working on does in fact make things come apart and go back together easier, it just takes several minutes ( or hours) to reach the proper escalation of tone.
