I have read that some of the nissan axles from over seas are quite strong. Are these yours?

The Nissan Patrol axles that Iīm referring to are 9.25" and I think they are 3" wider than 85 Toy axles. These work very well here in Iceland with 44" tires, there is very little breakage and they seem to last.

Do you have a model number or any other info on this axle? I thought the patrol axles I saw pictures of were just regular strait axles. Those look like portals.

Many people have begun using the tacoma diffs in there diamond axles. I think it is comparable in strength to a cruiser 9.5". The conversion I'm talking about is not common because it is a hassel. I don't mean to make it sound to easy. It would take a long time it's just that it can be accomplished by someone with moderate skills.

The cruiser 9.5" takes the same 30 spline shaft that a 8" and 8.4" do. The fj60 front axle has a 9.5" diff. If I remember right it is 58.5" the same as an ifs rear. The outers are the same as a mini truck and will accept 30 spline longs. They also come with the vented rotors everyone swaps onto there trucks. I have seen a few mini truck sas done with this axle and I'm not sure why it is not more popular.

The same 9.5" comes in the fj80 and some come with E-lockers. Some guys over on Ih8mud.com have swapped this e-locker into their fj60 axles. It seemed to be about the same amount of work it takes to put a regular e-locker in a mini housing. Were the axles go into the diff one side needs longer splines for the locker. If you are getting longs anyway bobby knows the right spline length.

fj60 axle with fj80 e-locker. Not sure if this is front or rear they are both offset.

Longer spline needed for locker.

hey you have more links as to swapping a FJ60 axle under a Mini? I am looking into this axle as apposed to the 84-85 mini axle when I get my 90-95 IFS truck/4runner.

I don't have any links but a few people have done it. They are spring under from the factory so you will have to redo the perches. Ruff Stuff Specialties makes a spring over kit for these axles. He is also a supper nice guy and I'm sure he could answer any questions about putting this axle under your truck. I think his shop is in nor-cal around sac.

I'm interested in what you come up with as my brother is in the planning stages of doing this as well. :beerchug:

well...
the fj60 has the same spline count as the 8" Toyota and yeas the axles fit.
the 3rd has always been called a 9.5" around me but you might wanna call it something else.
that brace on the tundra diff looks damn sexy but check this out. the bolts on the outside on the diff are supposed to do something similar....  in this truck it hasn't broken yet so  :crossed:

thanks for the info guys.

I like the idea of not needing spacers and a stronger diff.
I know i'll need to do new perches, no biggy though.

Is this a high pinion 8"? That looks like a fj80 suspension but I know you guys get different stuff over there.
That is an interesting idea. Do you have any more details or pics?
