What are my options installing a turbo trans and tcase?
« on: Sep 14, 2004, 05:57:32 AM »
Here's my dilema.  I curently have a G-52>forward shift crawl box>MC07>top shift.  I want to ditch the G-52  for the R151.  Is my only option to purchase the 23 sp adapter?  Also, is the turbo t case worth more being intact and me just buying the 23 spl input gear and changing the gear out in my crawl box?  Will my forward shift box mate to the back of the turbo tranny after the swap to 23 spl?  What do you guys think?  I am at the point where I just want to get rid of the light duty G52.  I can also pick up another W56 with tcase.  This would make the swap cheaper, but I like the turbos ruggedness and lower first gear.

Never turn down a R151F upgrade :_order:

It is not necssary to upgrade to a 23 spline coupler in the dual case. If you are not going to pound your truck hard, the 21 spline should work just find.
If you can buy the complete turbo t/case for the cost of a new 23 spline input gear then I would buy it, use the input gear, and sell the rest of the case for a dual box donor.

Since your G52 uses the same t/case shift rods as the turbo t/case, your G52 style Marlin box will bolt right up to the back of the R151F once you change the input gear

I have used a w56, a g54,and had the stock g52 rebuilt twice and have broken a shaft in all of them

i up graded to the r150 f and will see how it holds up.  :crossed:

anyway the g52's won't handle hard romping on the skinny pedal and never ever ever try to spin fifth in the mud or any other situation

oh yeah and don't try to bark third on the pavement with 33x12.5's and 4;88 gears and a locker in any of these transmissions g52 g54 w56 or the g58 unless you payed Marlin to go through it and beef it up and even still I would suspect he would say never ever do that

(just because you can doesn't mean you should) peer pressure peer pressure

right after I got my r150f and all the neccessary adapters and shelled out the dough I found a r151f with dual cases for a 1000.00 and had to pass it up for lack of funds

r151f for sure if you can swing it

your only problems really are replaceability if you do manage to break it
(they can be hard to find) or so exspensive when you do find them it hurts

Marlin is the man and can set you up with what ever you need when it comes to toy's
and keep in mind you get what you pay for.

ah, ye of little faith.  i've beaten on my L43 4 speed since day one and it's held up fine.  i'm buying an L50 or L52 5 speed tomorrow for the fifth gear and a bit of extra strength, though.

i'm suprised the L43 has held up to my faulty clutch as long as it has, though.
