So this is my first post and I was wondering if anyone has had experience with Gorilla Winches? I have done some searching and have not found many reviews. I will be meeting blackdiamond in Moab in May so I have been thinking about getting a winch before the trip.

It seems like you get quite a bit for the price. Does your brother have the Silver Back Series with the wireless remote or the Midnight Series?

looks just like the smittybuilt.

The Smittybuilt XRC8 and the Gorilla Midnight Series 8,000lb do look similar, but are not identical items.  They both have 5.5 hp motors, but the XRC8 has a 172.8: gear ratio and the Gorilla is 235:1.

The XRC10 is also a 5.5 hp motor with a 218:1 gear ratio so the Gorilla rating might be a bit conservative, but I'd expect slow line speeds.

I can't imagine that we'll need a winch on more than one of the trips and I should have us covered with the new Warn M8000.  If Zembalayan comes along he has a Warn winch as well.

On the surface, it looks exactly like my old Warn mx8000, which makes me wonder if it's just the motor that is different. Kinda makes one think about just switching out the motor if it burns up, getting a higher HP motor. I'd have to go back and look at Warn's info to see what the real difference is.
