4cyl to a 6cyl trans?
« on: Jan 26, 2009, 07:42:02 PM »
I was wondering if anyone knew whether my 91 22re could be bolted up to a six cyl transmission.  I didn't know if it was possible to swap the bell housings from the transmissions or not.  the transmission is in a 91 also but the 6cyl caught on fire and all I have is a 22re to replace it with.

You would need a bellhousing from a R151F turbo transmission to make it bolt up.  However, your engine mounts would not line up, and you would have to move the transmission back.  It would be a major pain in my opinion, because you would have to do drive shafts, and exhaust and fuel system mods.  Although the 22r is a very reliable engine, you would be doing a lot of work to have less power.  3.0l parts are very easy to come by so if you just need a harness and some intake parts I would recomend a trip to the local junk yard, or car-part.com.
