I need some help, ?????
« on: Sep 10, 2004, 09:11:56 PM »
hey  e, I have been around toyota's my whole life. My 1992 extra-cab v-6 3vz-e took a dump in one of the cylinders with a bad exhuast valve, and cylinder wear, egg shape action.  This thing has 203,ooo miles on her. I do not want to get into rebuilding it, I pulled it out thinking I could just have the heads done and top and bottom end with rings and bearings, I was wrong.  both cams were scored and you can not put new bearings with that so yep I want to swap it with a 350 chevota  I have a fresh 350, and thinking about going through the original tranny. I just need some pointers on how to go about doing this swap.  What's good and what's bad to fullfill my hopefully succesfull jurney.

Of course a V8 is cool to have, but I've seen many scary conversions that were done in a walk in closet with a stapler and a swiss army knife. Just be sure that you plan on taking at least 3 months to complete this conversion.

I have no experience with V8s personally, but my advise it to take it slow, research in depth, and do a A+ job so it will be reliable and give you many years together

3 months??  More like 3 days if its gonna get a carb.  A buddy and I put a sbc in his 93 a few years ago and it ended up being pretty easy but it was custom to say the least.  First off you need to have a 4" suspension lift for oil pan clearance or a custom oil pan from AA.  A 3" body lift is also pretty much required for distributor clearance.  Just buy the mounts from an conversion vendor, I hate to say it but NWOR has the nicest ones around.  AA has the bellhousing you'll need.  Feel free to ask any more Q's you can come up with.

If its going to be getting a carb then its a very easy 3 day job.  But on the other hand, if its bound for injection then you'd better plan of a LOT longer.
