So here's my problem my wife's 2000 Grand Cherokee just had the check engine light come on, the power seats move all the way up when you unlock it the pedals also do the same.  I have not had a chance to look at it because this just happened this morning to her.  It has the 4.7 HO V8 all wheel drive, it has pretty much every option but navigation any help is appreciated.  Thanks

I can't be of much help unless you run the codes and shoot em my way, but here's what little I could find on the MIL and Check Engine (EVIC) lights:

EVIC PROGRAMMING MODE

The Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) provides the vehicle operator with a user interface, which allows the selection of several optional customer programmable electronic features to suit individual preferences. The EVIC must be placed into its programming mode in order to view or change the programmable features. To enter the EVIC programming mode and to view or change the selected programmable features options, proceed as follows:

Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Depress and release the Menu push button. The first item in the programmable features menu list will appear in the EVIC display.
Momentarily depress and release the Menu push button to step through the programmable features list. Each programmable feature and its currently selected option will appear on the EVIC display in the sequence shown in the Programmable Features list that follows.
Momentarily depress and release the Step push button to step through the available options for the programmable feature being displayed.
The option that last appears in the display with a programmable feature before exiting the programming mode, becomes the newly selected programmable feature option.
The EVIC exits the programming mode and returns to its normal operating mode when the C/T (compass/thermometer) push button is depressed or when the end of the programmable features menu list is reached, whichever occurs first. SERVICE INTERVAL - The options include from 1000 to 12000 kilometers in 1000 kilometer increments (2000 to 7500 miles in 500 mile increments). The default is 12000 kilometers (7500 miles). The selected distance becomes the interval at which the Perform Service warning message will be displayed by the EVIC. If a new distance is selected, a second programmable feature appears, RESET SERVICE DISTANCE? - The options include No and Yes. The default is Yes. When Yes is selected, the accumulated distance since the last previous Perform Service warning message will be reset to zero because the service interval has been changed. When No is selected, the distance until the next Perform Service warning message is reduced by the accumulated distance since the last previous message.

The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is located on the instrument panel. It is displayed as an engine icon (graphic).

As a functional test, the MIL illuminates at key-on before engine cranking. Whenever the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) that affects vehicle emissions, it illuminates the MIL. If a problem is detected, the PCM sends a message to the instrument cluster to illuminate the lamp. The PCM illuminates the MIL only for DTC's that affect vehicle emissions. There are some monitors that may take two consecutive trips, with a detected fault, before the MIL is illuminated. The MIL stays on continuously when the PCM has entered a Limp-In mode or identified a failed emission component. Refer to the Diagnostic Trouble Code charts for emission related codes.

Also, the MIL either flashes or illuminates continuously when the PCM detects active engine misfire. Refer to Misfire Monitoring.

Additionally, the PCM may reset (turn OFF) the MIL when one of the following occur:

PCM does not detect the malfunction for 3 consecutive trips (except misfire and Fuel system Monitors).
PCM does not detect a malfunction while performing three successive engine misfire or fuel system tests. The PCM performs these tests while the engine is operating within ±375 rpm of and within 10 % of the load of the operating condition at which the malfunction was first detected.

Fid someone with a code reader and see what it is.  The most common DTC is for emissions.  75% of the CELs we see are for EVAP leaks of some sort.  Is it running any different?  (Chrysler Tech speaking).

Yes it has been running just fine when i drive it.  like I said it just started to do some random things like with the seat and pedals.

trickcomanche

The CEL came on then the interior electronics have isuses?  Like what ?  Give me a list of whats not working like its suposed to.......

The items that are not working like they should are the easy exit/acess seat (drivers side) moves all the way up when the car has been unlocked, and the pedals come all the way up when the car has been unlocked.  We were having an issue with the tire pressure sensors which turned out that two were just low but it will not let me re-calibrate them.  Those are the only issue that i have had.

trickcomanche

These all started at the same time as the CEL?

The seat and pedals started a few days before the light.

trickcomanche

ok youve got two separate issues.  Was there anything done to the vehicle befor the CEL and pedal issues?  i.e. dissconected battery or replaced battery?
BUILD IT, RUN IT, BREAK IT, REPETE

yota pu/runner

No the battery has not been disconnected in about a year.

trickcomanche

Bring it down to Liberty Crysler in Hanford and ask for Dave in service.  I can check it out real quick for ya or mabe work somthin out, mabe come up there for a small fee..... :eyebrow:

Sounds good i will do my best to get down there.  Thanks

So I just got home and pulled the wifes in the garage and no more check engine light.  The seat and pedals still moved but no light.  What do you think the deal is.

trickcomanche

If the light came on and went off, then the code is stored.  No longer active.  The fault is still there but the pcm is no longer reconizing it due to the number of trips, (number of times the fault has occured.  Still need to get it looked at tho.

Im going to try and head down today.  Just need to know how much it might cost me?  Again I'm going to try but not positive.

trickcomanche

Just go to service and ask for Dave (me),  we'll figure something out.
