Wheel Cylinders 87 4Runner
« on: Jan 08, 2009, 05:27:39 PM »
I recently replaced the rear wheel cylinders in my 87 4runner with a pair from NAPA. However, they wouldn't compress enough to get the drums on...ended up having to shave down the head on the pads (where it meets the groove in the wheel cylinders) The brakes work now. Anyone else have this problem...are the Napa ones just too big?

Did brakes on an 83 and had to grind the place where the rod hit the notch in the brake shoes. Aftermarket shoes and when I compared them to OEM the slots were not as deep on the aftermarket as they were on the OEM.

:slap:  They gave you the wrong parts, dummy.  Did you even think to compare the old wheel cylinder and the new one?  If you did, you would have seen the very obvious difference in size.  It's not that they didn't compress enough... it's that they were for a 3rd gen.

Ha...funny you mention that cause we did compare them and could not tell a difference between them. However, I'm sure with some careful measurments you would be right.

Just got some replacements from Toyota and they are the same size as the ones from Napa. Hmm...well i guess ill just deal with it and keep shaving down the pads where the make contact with the wheel cylinder.

Last time I bought wheel cylinders from Napa. One ended up leaking after I got it all put back together.

what part # did you get by the listing it should have been #37841 if was not you did get the wrong ones, or they were misboxed.
