Front Drive Shaft for a '84 Toyota Pickup
« on: Dec 16, 2008, 01:19:58 PM »
Looking for a nice rust free (Southern, Southwestern, West coast) part with good tight splines on the slip joint. This is just for a stock style application.  I'm in Wisconsin so it would need to be shipped.

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

Thanks for posting.  I think that '84 -85 are a little bit different.  But maybe it's just the flanges.  In any case I need to measure the length of mine so I can compare.  I'll get back to ya.

Thanks. I saw this guy's post in the "for sale" section.  I'm gonna check him out, but if he is located around St Louis, MO he's probably too close to the rustbelt to have a driveshaft that I'd want.

will post one at like 9 am,

It turns out I might have a shaft I can use in a parts truck I already own!!  I'm going to install it on Sunday and see how it works.  I'll get back to you if it's not good.

The one in the top of the picture is a rear shaft.  The one at the bottom looks like what I need. -- Matt

In the 1984 factory service manual they show a shaft that looks just like an IFS shaft for the front of a solid axle '84 truck.  The shaft that's on my truck right now (the original part) looks just like the IFS shaft too. That's because 84 - 85 front shafts look just like an IFS shaft. The only difference is that the CV on the IFS shaft has less angular range, 25 degrees versus 35 degrees for a solid axle.  The differences are all internal and not visible. I already have an IFS shaft so it looks like I neeed to keep looking.

Ive got one in MN that is in great shape actually.  Its out of an 85 but was a CA truck before it came to MN and wasn't driven in the winter.  Its buried in the garage right now but if you are interested in it for $85 shipped to you I can dig it out and get pics for you.

Thanks!
