For those of you with welders, how much did you get charged to get it installed or did you wire it up yourself?

BLACKDOG

you mean to hook it up to your breaker box, and wire it in?

When my dad got his hot tub, they had an electrician do the install, but he ran the wires (through the crawlspace from the garage to the back porch) and bought the wires from HD.  I think he paid $175 for the install, but it would have been $450 or so if the electrician had to do the labor part.

got the cable from my friends scrap yard for like $20 , (80 feet #2 copper) and wired it all in, i used a piggy back box cutoff, on the power pole, just under the main cutoff, the ran it over to the shop, wired in a complete breaker box,  double pole 50 amp breaker for the welder, used #6 cable (same size as welder plug) to the welder "plug socket" on the side of a post inside the front door,

Varies on distance to your panel and ease of running the cable.Best bet is to make a heavy extension cord and use the dryer outlel thats usualy cheaper than a instal

this is what i used to do, but i got sick of having to deal with it.  once i had 220 installed i was able to use a much shorter extension cord and i was no longer getting yelled at for leaving the door open a crack in the middle of winter.

Those prices are what I thought it would be around. My panel is outside of the garage and I just wanted the plug on the inside (basically the other side of the wall) and he quoted me a rediculous price. I just laughed and said OK Thanks for the quote.

Some panels that are old and full the breakers you have to buy are rediculously priced but some electricians get carried away since most people are scared of electricity.I only gouge assholes :psss:

He tried to tell me the panel was like 40 or 50 years old and and made a gesture that the house was old and then I told him the house was only a little over 20 years old and it was just remodeled. He then made a phone call and almost cut his quote in half. I think he was just trying to gouge me because of the area.

usually since i hate bidding i just tell people to pay for parts and i charge them hourly.

I pretty much quit doing side work because of dealing with cheap f****king people who want it done but don't want to pay.
