Years ago, the USS Missouri was in the Port of Astoria, getting ready for its trip to Hawaii, to be part of the Pearl Harbor museum.  And we stood in line for hours to get on deck, and just looking at it, was awesome.  But it wasn't until I stood on deck, that the power of the history of this ship, really gave me a feeling I couldn't explain.  Just the historical background of this ship was overwhelming.  And then I saw the spot in the upper deck, that is housed in a bubble, in the exact location that the war with Japan ended!  It was a powerful moment to be at that spot.  Being on the ship was the closest I have been to a real piece of history, that I have been able to see, feel and touch.  It made me really think about those in my family that had served, especially during WWII. 

It was a humbling experience.  :usa:

Days like today my hat is off to my father, my uncles, my brothers and all the other men who have pledged their lives to protect this great country in the past, in the present, and in the future...   :respect:

A day of infamy. May we remember the lessons learned, and never forget those who lost their lives so that we could learn it.

Again today, a special thanks to all who have given their all to protect and guarantee our freedom, To those who have done their part to defend it, to those who are currently defending it, and to those who will carry the heavy responsibility in the future.

It seems like nowadays this tragic event always gets overshadowed by 9/11. Let's not let this generation or any others forget what happened.  :usa:

A friend of mine, found out his kids were feeling that the Holocaust was a joke, so he took them to Europe this summer.  Specifically, to see Auschwitz, and other concentration camps.  His kids saw first hand what actually had happened, and gave a small presentation in their high school about what they saw!  It was a very good experience for them, too see what wars can do!


I would have loved to gone to see that.  Since my grandfather helped with the liberation of the camps.  That and I want to go Dutch Harbor and Adak Island, Alaska.  Another place he was stationed, during the Japanese raids.

God bless those Sailors and Marines that made the Arizona their final resting place, and those others that died in the same attacks. 

When I went to the memorial, I had the great honor and privelidge of meeting and seeing a Pearl Harbor survivor and a Japanese sailor that participated in the attacks meet for the first time.  The two had been interacting online, having met through a WWII survivor website.  It was incredible to see the two, who at one time had been sworn enemies, embrace each other like brothers.  I learned a lot that day, as I got to hear stories from both sides of the war.  It was an incredible experience for me.

Thank you for remembering this event.  My Stepfather was there, was on the boat that spotted the mini sub that morning.  I myself, helped raise money for the Arizona memorial, I have never been to see it, but I really want to.  Living with my Stepdad, when those old movies came on he would still get mad and tears would start.  When ever I seen someone wearing a service uniform or a retired military personell hat, I make it a point to go and thank them.  Met some really nice people that way.  Thanks again for all of you remembering.
