I want to know how much everyone here trusts their rig to go on road trips. I'm not talking about to the corner store. I am talking about at least 100-200 mile trips. How much do you trust your Toy?

I have 176k miles on my Toy and now that my parents live in Carson City Nevada, and I live in the Bay Area, I may have to use my rig half the year to visit them. I am also planning on using it to go snowboarding many times during the year. I know it is a struggle climbing grades and such, even with 4.88's. I also just put road side assistance on my insurance just in case my Toy breaks. But I keep having this fascination of getting rid of my CTS-V and  my Toy for a new 5.7l 4x4 Tundra. Help me keep my vehicles. Convice me you trust your Toyota too.

As long as you know the maintenance record you should be fine.   I've owned my 1989 pickup for 12 years.  It has 255,000 miles on it and other than the 37" boggers I'd drive it anywhere in the country if I needed to.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

I trust my Toy to get me safely to where I need to go. There is always something that makes me cringe and wonder what´s happening but it usually turns out to be something stupid like a loose exhaust flange rattling or snow in my wheels causing the steering wheel to shake.

yota pu/runner

yeah i trust my Toy.  But not going to lie to you i just posted a topic because i am planning on going to the Rubicon and wasn't really sure if i was going to try driving my Toy or towing.  But there are some great guys on here that are willing always to help a guy out if he breaks down.  I posted my question because my truck has left me stranded fortunaetly i was only two miles from home.  But i drive it everyday.  And like Hawk said sometimes you hear the worst noise and it turns out to be nothing.

Wow, thanks for the confidence guys. I do take very good care of her. I maintain every part of this truck and baby it for the most part. I have never even taken the motor over 4k rpm's. Just the age of the truck sticks in the back of my mind on long trips. I love this truck and I never want to get rid of it. But the thought of having a 381hp Tundra 4x4 would be nice too.

i take mine everywhere!  i go to the rubicon atleast three times a year and i drive it there, beat the crap out of it and have to drive it home.  it funny cuz a bunch of the guys i go with have jeeps and most of them trailer them there. and i drive a lot harder then they do.  theres a guy witha fullsize bronco who takes it throught the rubi and he tells me i take mine too far.  lol

Once I get to know a rig I would determine how much I would trust it to go long distances. My 80 I would have taken anywhere anytime, I felt it was in excellent shape and took it as far as Moab and back. My current rig would need some work before I'd take it very far, I'm just not secure that it would not have an issue. It really depends on the way you feel about it.

Enough to drive it as a DD and make 400mi camping trips, while offroading as stock.

I trust it with my life every time I go out.  I used to DD it and drive 250 miles one way to wheel then drive it home on a regular basis.

I drove my 1985 Toyota Truck from Washington State to Colorado when I was in school more than once, plus I drove it from Washington State to Moab for a week on the trails three or four times.  I never had a failure that prevented me from driving home.

I have driven my 1989 Toyota 4Runner from Washington State to Moab for a week on the trails and to the Rubicon (MCR7) without any failures.  The trip to Moab was the build shakedown so I had some interesting issues that have been resolved.

You build them strong with quality parts, treat them nice and maintain them well and you'll be happy.

You would miss the CTS-V if you got rid of it.  I drive the 4Runner and my wife has a Mazdaspeed3 to fulfill my need for crawling and speed.  The Tundra can't do either.

My 87 4Runner?  It could drive to Alaska and back, no problem.  If it was in the winter, I'd replace the heater core to make the heater work at 100% vs about 50% now due to age, but not much else. (I'm in So Cal - winters here get maybe down to 10-20F or so, so 50% of optimal is just fine so far)

It has almost 400K miles on it...  A few hundred mile road trip isn't even worth bothering over.   Aren't Toyotas great that way?   :yesnod:

Lowrider

My crawler drives 100 miles to the hammers, wheels, and drives me back home. (after I bum some air from my friends, lol) I trust it with my life. If only I had the same trust in LEO having something better to do then pull me over, I would be all set.  :gap:

My 4runner has only been on a few long trips. Three or four 300 mile one way trips this year fishing to the eastern sierras. It did drive my a$$ up to the dusy, loaded with a weeks worth of camping gear, laugh at the trail, and drive me back home. OK, maybe it didnt laugh at the trail, but it handled it just fine. I trust it with my life as well.

Toyota, oh what a feeling.

I don't know...I just bought an 87 truck. I'm putting a killer engine in it, but so far I've only pushed it in an out of the shop. I got it with a bad engine, so, for all I know the electric is fried and it has no brakes.

I really don't trust my 80 to go over 100 mile round trip, only because of a crack in the side of the block thats about 8 inchs long!!!!!!!! :yikes: Lose about 1 qt. of oil every 1000 miles or so.  If it wasn't for that I'd drive it anywhere.

Not sure yet on the "new" 87 runner. Just haven't had it long enough to know yet.

As far as my 89,  It would probably make it from coast to coast but with 40 in tires not balanced, I don't wanna try!!! :gap:
I don't need a winch, I wheel a TOYOTA!!!!!!!
