Yeah I make it a habit to clean my guns every time I fire them. The problem with 7.62x54r is there isnt much new ammo actually produced and its harder to buy it in bulk quantities. S&B makes some nice FMJ and SP, and Wolf makes some, but other than that all we are left with is dirty ass surplus ammo. But hey, thats what these guns are for, cheap, zombie apocalypse weapons :gap:

Time to reload.. Clean burns, cheap ammo, and you can adjust the loads to give your rifle better groups.

how about the :pokinit: has hit the fan and you have no house, you are with rig or worse, on foot. ONE rifle that you currently own, to defend, hunt and provide food for yourself and whoever is in your group.

well if all hope is gone and my :moon: is on the line, I'd take my Browning A-5  shots slugs down to low base #9's
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

I think you would like the 8MM mauser better... Don't think I would stake my life of a rifle made to shoot mice.. :disturbed:

In due time. I save all my brass but I cant afford to stock up on reloading equipment and stuff right now. I would love to reload my own ammo some day though.

Reloading is really really simple.  Really.  :yesnod:

You don't need a 400 round an hour rig to start, and used gear is everywhere.

If I find the right machine for the right price locally, I will definitely swoop on it. But as a broke college student I have to plan my spending very wisely :(

The other good thing is that you can buy some good clean new brass and load it at about 80% max power(softer target type load) and get 15-20 reloads out of the set.

http://www.lapua.com/index.php?id=852
Their 7.62x53 brass works(fraction of a MM different, first time firing it will resize it perfectly anyways to your chamber)l.  New, clean, and works.  100 rounds will run you about $40, which isn't SO unreasonable, really.  Norma also makes the brass, IIRC.

Oh - interesting note, that.  The original specs for the bullet were 7.62X53.5 - the Swedish government rounded down, the Russians rounded up.  Same thing as far as the brass is concerned.

My bad - it was the Finnish government - otherwise what I said. :)

The real reason to reload, though, is to use newer non-corrosive, faster burning powders.

My go to rifle is an Ar15 I built up a couple years ago. It's the most accurate rifle I've had, and that statement puts it in the running with a McMillan 300WM, a Hart built Remington 700, and two AR10T's. I don't really care for .223, but it is effective if the shot is accurately placed and this rifle helps do that part. (For any that care, or know what it means, it's got a Noveske 18" SPR barrel, 1:7 twist, PRI free float tube, ARMS sights and scope mounts, Nikon 2.5-10 mildot scope, RRA match trigger). Nice part is I've got 5,000 pieces of brass and primers and a couple thousand bullets to load up for it and a whole bunch of mags. I deer hunt and pig hunt with it. I've got an AAC M4-1000 suppressor on it and it's as quiet as a 22LR. I don't have a pic handy, but if you google MK12 Mod0, that's what it is.

here is my ar15 @ 100 yards
first time shooting it,
dialing the scope in
its a cheapo china scope
Im pretty sure I could peg a deer or enemy @100 yards
I tryed 200 yards for a 2 liter bottle but only had 5 rounds left, 2" to low everytime
since it is my only rifle, id keep it
