New money pit
« on: Nov 23, 2008, 01:48:17 PM »
Well now i did it  I bought another 4runner  But this time i got a nice DD its a Mint 1995  I dont think anyone has ever sat in the thing it looks like brand new  Only 115,000 miles on it . Now the down side   its a Auto  but its my DD so i am ok with it  and it has Coil link rear end . I am thinking about putting a small lift on and  some 33 just so it dont look like every other 4 runner   . Has anyone  lifted a 2nd gen that has the coil rear end ? and what about gearing  I know 529 is the norm for 35 but i think i have 488 stock with 31 . if i went to 33 or maybe 35 what would you use with the auto .  This will not be a hardcore trail rig   Well not just yet at least  just a real nice take camping  or to the snow  trail rideing 4runner .

do a 2" body lift, and you will clear 33s
I just did a 3" b.l. on a 94 4 runner and it clears his 33s with ease.

does it have the 3.0?

i think 33's  would look and work fine with the factory 4.88's

If it is an auto I would say it is a v6. I would get the ball joint spacers and a nice lift coil to clear 33s. You will feel a loss of power on 33s but not too bad. Here is my old Nissan with 3in lift on 33s and light trimming.

ive got a 90 4runner and have 4.88's with a 22re/w56/duals and with 35's i felt like i didnt have enough rpm, so i tried 37's which didnt have good road manners, and finally im running 36 tsl's.  as far as a lift, i did a sas with rears/3.5 alcans up front, and rancho 3.5 leafs in the rear

Yes its a 3.0   i was thinking about a body lift  but that really is not my choice   It has 31 on it now .    I have a 89 runner also that is my trail rig   . This is my Nice truck that  I can actually here myself think lol when i am driveing on the freeway . I may just bite the bullit and get a IFS lift  Just not sure about the rear . I do not want to cut this truck all up . And what about the ABS will i have to do anything about that with the larger tires.   Sorry for sounding kinda dumb  but i have never had a Toyota with this much crap on it  . But it sure does look and drive nice   .   This truck will deffinetly be getting a 3.4 swap when the time comes   But for now its fine . I have never had a auto in my life   and its kinda weird   but i kinda like it for a DD .   I just dont want to lift it and put bigger tires and then have it start shifting funny or anything thats why i was thinking regear ?

I also had a 95 4runner with 3.0.  I put a 2" body lift with 33" tires, i had the stock 4:88.  Power wise there was a noticeable difference, however it wasn't a complete night & day.  It was a little difficult getting pn the freeway if the on ramp was up hill but on flat land i didn't have a problem.  But there was a difference from the 31".  Mine was a 5 speed and not the automatic, but had a buddy that put a 4" ProComp lift with 33" on his with an auto and he had some power differences but i was happy with my body lift, on the trails it kept me lower to the ground and my center of gravity lower especially with the IFS.

Thank you i got some good ideas now   still not sure about gears though . right now with the Cruise set at about 73   i am rt around 3000 rpms that is with 31 inch tires  . I am really going to have to remeber what this truck is for and not get carried away  so i am pretty sure 33 are going to be my tire of choice.  Do you think 5.29 will be to much .  Right now i am thinking  that i would rather do a suspension lift  becuse i want to put a winch on it and dont want to mess with lift brackets

LMAO  yes that would be the thing to do  But None of us we be on this site if that's all we did with are Toys .  i have a 89 4 runner that is in like new condition That was my DD  but i blew a head gasket  and while it was down  I bought a 91 std cab    . It was cool but just to small for me and my kids  so i just sold that   and  just happend upon this 4runner  .   really i would like to just get a xtracab p/u  and do a flat bed   cus i know i will trash  the Runners .   My last 4runner was really nice   some may have scene it it was zebra stripped on 36 Iroks with  Currie 9inch axles  .  I think half the fun is building them . I think the 95 is gona be kinda like a expedition  type vehicle

The 2 Best suggestions in my opinion!

if your just looking for a few inches to clear 33s, do a landcruiser 80 series rear coil, will ride about the same but 2.5 inches taller, and a set of ball joint spacers in front. will easily clear 33s at that point. 35s if your sawzall and you are freinds :D

Well i found a cure LOL i Bought ANOTHER 4 runner today  yep Now i have 3  . I just had the motor completly redone on my 89  with the 3.0   That was a waist but what can you do . My 95 is like new   but it developed a sound i am not real happy with  when you let off the gas it has a knock sound  ?  not sure if thats a 3.0 common sound ?  So i will either drive it till it blows and then do a 3.4 swap . So i was looking and i found what i was really looking for   What i used to have  a 89 4runner with a 22re and 5 speed  Its on 36 iroks it has a header and cam with flowmaster exhaust   weird cus it is almost exactly like the truck i sold a few years ago and kick myself for  .  Now what i think is going to happen is the stock 89 with 3.0   is going to get sold and that money is going towards a 3.4 swap  . O ya  and the new 89 is still ifs with a superlift set up  But  Thats just a phone call away . I will have to figuer out how to post pics but i will being doing a SAS on it SOON . AND NEVER EVER AGAIN will i buy a 3.0
