winch mount question

Quick question. I finished my front and rear winch mounts this am and ready to bolt em on, both are 8,000 lb models, different labels but both made by mile marker and weigh around 90lb each. I made some seriously stout mounts, I mean mega burl. My question is this: Both winches attach to the mount with four little 10mm bolts. This seems to be a weak point,even with 8.8 grade bolts, am I right? I've never used a winch before, but I've  been studying up and I know actual working loads on a really stuck rig that weighs 3800lb fully loaded can exceed 15,000lbs. Are four 10mm bolts enough? Huh?  THat is some REALLY weak hardware!!  ShawnB's MM 9500 used 4 3/8" bolts.  Wait a second, the bolts just hold it to the backside of the face of the winch mount correct?  If so yes thats small but it should be ok.  You might re-tap the mounting holes to at least 3/8" if there is enough meat to do so.

From a little searching I found different figures but a 3/8" grade 8 bolt has about 95,000psi shear strength...I wouldn't worry too much about the bolts with a 15,000lb load.  Using a snatch block will double the load rating of your winch.

Hehe You know, I just re read what I had typed and for some reason I was thinking like all my buddies do, that by 10mm you were refering to the size of the bolt head   10mm is actually the metric 3/8" so duh yea it'll be fine.  I feel like an idiot sorry for any confusion.....

yes, I did mean the actual body of bolt is 10mm, altho it's really 3/8, I just think in metric automatically, it is a result of the many years of wet work I did for the royal canadian mounted police in Beriut.........
