1985sr5-i remember seeing you too.  shortly after that i flooded my truck in a mud hole and shorted out the alternator, then to make things worse on the way home right as i got into lakeport i blew my motor. i guess all those hiils started getting to it.

83yota-the claws do awsome on the rocks, mud etc. on the street they handle nice but they wear pretty quik when driven on every day ive got almost 3 years on mine with just normal daily driving.

so anyways my motor is fried so im in the market for parts for a 3rz swap.  im also looking for someone around napa CA who has done this swap because i would like to see one in person.  ill keep the updates comming on the swap and hopefully   ill get it done for my january snow trip. wish my luck

Oh man that sucks, sorry to here about that! I don't know of anyone that has done the 3rz swap around here. (except for this website!) I'm sure there around. If you need help or want to go wheeling (when you get your engine in) let me know. What's the Snow trip about?

Looking for parts now for a 3rz, even a whole truck for the right price.  im having withdrawls  , i havent touched my yota in a whole week!!!  im pulling my dads trailer out of the driveway on thanksgiving morning and my truck is going in.  ill start pulling the motor this weekend!  anyone who wants it can have it for like $50. lol  ill take pics of the carnage.

finally found a 3rz.   its out of a 2001 tacoma auto trans with 61,000 miles for $2000 which i think is a good price.  im getting the motor, wiering harness, complete exhaust, fuel system except the tank,  all the hoses and air boxes from under the hood and the ECU. all i will need, hopefully, is the bell housing and clutch stuff, an efi tank out of a second gen, and all the t100 oil pan parts.  ill take pics wen i get it home.

got the 3rz home and in the garage last night! finally got some time to post some pics.  i started looking at the wiering and going through it and got a bit intimidated so ill just wait for the engine to be in the truck before tackling that.  ill keep the updates coming as i go, enjoy!

goin to pick up parts tomaro!  im getting the rest of the wiering from the yard i got the motor from in rancho cordova the goin to shingle springs for the bell housing i need! and i finally sold my old motor and an old set of tires which im delivering tomaro aswell!

got my bell housing home!  when i told the guy at the junk yard what wiering i needed he said it would take a couple houres to get it all out so there guna ship it tomaro, should be here by wendsday! and the guy i sold my motor to might have a tank for me aswell!!!  woohoo the parts are coming

ive been making progres its just all at night so the pics dont turn out right.  i got the bell housing bolted up to the tranny and most of the engine compartment cleaned and ready for paint as well as got the old engine mounts off.  one thing i am still worried about are gauges and the check engine light.  i have a bunch of mechanical gauges so im guna try to use those and see how that works out.
Oh and the rest of my wiering came in today which im not looking forward to.....
ill get some pics tomaro before school so yall can see my work.  i hope to have the motor mounted by this weekend but well see what happens.

got the motor in this morning, not mounted yet just bolted to the tranny and on jacks.  i wanted to get the mounts done but in stareted to rain so that was gay. but atleast its in (for the first time)  i work all week so christmas eve and christmas day will be my only real time to work on it.  ill take some pictures before work tomaro if i get a chance.

so i just noticed i have almost no clearance between the wiering harness on the motor and the fire wall.  if i lower the motor down to get clearance my engine mounts hit the frame....
the harness dosent hit horrably but i might have problems when the engine torques....
any help or advice would be nice.  one more thing, is there anyone around napa CA who has done the swap so i can look at afew things?

finaly got time to update!
the motor is in for the last time.  I started working on the vacume lines and the intake and got most of it done.  put the holes in the firewall for the wiering to go through and started going through that a bit.  took out the dash and started eliminating most of the stock wirering.  i have the new clutch and flywheel ready to go so im going to try to get all that put in tomaro aswell as the new clutch lines and slave cylinder.  i also hooked up the coolant lines for the heater core and the upper radiator hose to the stock radiator which fits fine so im just guna use that for the time being, although i need to fab up the lower hose still. well enough talk, heres the pics!

i got the clutch in  last weekend and all the new lines bent and mounted for the slave cylinder.  i also finished up the vacume lines and the fuel lines minus the high pressure which i still need to find.  got the old tank out and am meeting with a guy to buy my efi tank and pump tomaro. 
after thinking it over for a while i decided to use all the tacoma wiering.  so i took all of the stock wiering out and am now looking for a tacoma gauge cluster, and a dash and steering colum if i can find one.    i aslo put in a brake porportioning valve on the rear so it stops locking up so bad.  pics anr on their way.....

Hey I know this is a total noob question and there must be a thread out there answering my question but what are you going to do in regards to smog? What dash are you going to use. Very nice truck man im excited to see the final product!

as for smog, im using all of the smog stuff off the tacoma so once its all done i will take it to California BAR and get it signed off and all legal and will then smog it the same as an 01 tacoma.  im going to try to use my stock dash and somhow fit the tacoma insterment cluster into it.

so i havent updated in a while.  i have mostly evrything done minus the oil pan and battary tray (and battary)  and a few small things.  i hope to get it started by next week some time.  i have all of my wirning notes which all works so far minus the headlights.  ill post those up later cuz there not with me right now.  im super stoked to drive my yota again!!!
