« on: Nov 05, 2008, 08:25:16 PM »
I bought this truck from 8Snaces

Needs a lot of work, and TLC. I got it without an engine. It also had a first gen bed on it that i gave away in favor of the bobbed first gen bed i already had.

i have an issue with it right now, that i am unsure what it is. it has a loud knock, i haven't yet torn into it, but i will soon

The front crossmember was FUBARed when I got it, so I built one, and had a NorcalPR from TTORA weld it in for me -- THANKS Phil

ALSO A BIG THANKS TO robrub00 and the others that have helped me along the way: meanokie, duffil, tallchevy, fordh8r, jkief86!!!! and others

I have had this truck quite awhile, and it has goen through several stages, i have already swapped out the tranny, and swapped in an engine, that has now decided to die -- working on building an engine now

i have a towbar mounted to the front of it and i move it around using the ranger i drive

it has a 4" pro-comp front lift and 2" rear shackles

1984 toyota xcab, rn66, sr5, 4x4, solid axle, bobbed 83 bed, efi ps pump w/ blocked off idle up, red pulleys, 22R (CA) being built, 60 amp internal reg alternator, 4.10s, G52, Type 2A T/Case, Marlin 1600 HD Clutch, round headlights, custom front crossmember, custom wiring, mixed parts, toolbox, racing seat, grant wheel

36.74 crawl ratio

In an attempt to save some money, I bid on a rebuilt head on ebay. It is for a turbo, so I know I will lose a little bit of compression, but in the long run, I will also be coming out ahead $ in machine work. I will also be running a 268 engnbldr cam, so this may offset that a little bit. I don't think it will be that noticeable.

I'm also going to gut the 2 core G52s i have for their alluminum to make some $ and toss the internals, and also take both the bad heads I had from my build for their alluminum. Should make back a few bucks at least.

From the listing:
1986 TOYOTA 22R TURBO HEAD LARGE VALVE
HEAD BEEN CHECKED .001" DECK...NO LEAKS...CAM JOURNALS STRAIGHT
THIS IS AN OEM HEAD...READY TO BOLT ON

yup, on a regular head, it is more solid, they mill out the sides to gain more CCs and lower compression for the turbo..  look @ the size of the valves, they are huge, compared to a regular 22re head also

No updates, it hasn't been touched since the last time I posted. I really wont have an opportunity to do any work on it for another 2-3 weeks, and then after that, I will only have about a month to get it running and then legal before I ship off to BMT. From all the research I have done, I am sure it will be fine, the compression loss is minimal, but I will also have a Engnbldr 268 cam in it, so that may even offset the compression loss.
What's BMT?

I figured that. But I had to ask just in case it was something else. That branch wouldn't have been my choice!  :cheese: I enlisted in the Army from 1990 to 1997(spec ops) I still miss it. You'll have a good time with all of the cadre. I'd like to thank you for the service to this country that your about to partake in. May God watch over and protect your every step. I'll still check in on ya to see what your up too. Make sure you let all of us "civilians" know how your are doing.

with the help of josh (crazykooter) and his trusty sidekick Shotzie, we got my bottom end built, the block is duplicolor engine enamel red

i plan on hitting the oil pan black

i have a new used crank.... well, it is from an original 20r that had 3k miles on it, engine was stored, and it then siezed over the years, i polished the journals and it was good to go.... cant get too much newer than 3k miles, factory oem ;)

also, once we hit the head with some emery cloth, those possibly pitted cam journal caps, we pretty much non existant... SWEET
