New Family Member!!!
« on: Oct 30, 2008, 03:07:38 PM »
This little guy is a 4month old boxer pup. Got him from the Aurora Animal Shelter. He is severely underweight and is a little sick too, so is on some meds for a week. He will come home tomorrow or Saturday morning. Depending when they complete his neutering...

His name is Aisin. VERY lovable and playful (and hella energetic). Very smart little guy too. And curious about everything. A little nervous, but I think its due to the shelter situation.

Will post a TON of pics once I get him home with me :) I cannot wait. He will totally be a wheeling doggie.

I saw him and I just couldn't let him go without trying to get him for myself and give him a loving spoiled rotten home. The shelter knew who the owners were, and the owners never came to claim him even though they were notified he was there... I wouldn't either if a shelter got ahold of my dog and it was that skinny I guess... lotsa fines involved I would imagine.

Anyways, here ya go!

Cute pup!  I love boxers, but they are huge slobberers  :ack:  A friend had one many years ago that was super friendly and laid back, but he wandered out to the highway and...   Another friend got one from a shelter several months or more ago, and it had a known history of abuse and took quite a while to warm up to people it didn't know.

I like the name too, but aisin is an independent company that supplies parts to more than just toyota
RIP KYOTA

So I picked Aisin up about 1.5 hours ago.

Oh my gosh he is sooo precious. He follows me everywhere. And by everywhere, I mean everywhere. He is scared of everything inside the house, but totally confident outside. Its crazy to imagine this cute little fellow may have never been in a house before.

And he is SOOO sick.... his belly is soo distended from him gulping his food, so I have to feed him 6-8 times a day to help him deal with the intake better until he is used to food. If that ever happens. He has 5 different meds he has to take as well. Poor guy. He is 34 LBS right now. So I can't wait to watch him get bigger and fatter and healthier.

Demodex Mange and Kennel Cough. So now my big dogs are segregated from the house... and he goes out front for potty so the boys have no access to his schtuff...

Here are some pics tho of him at home :D

and a video of him:

Very cute boxer! Cool name too, first time I have ever heard anyone use that name though I have thought about it in the past

Its good to see you rescued him from a shelter. Hope the little guy makes a quick recovery, he is definitely going to grow to his full potential now. Keep us updated as he gets bigger :)

thought i would update after the first night. he did really well yesterday. he gets tired really easy after playing for a couple minutes and has to take naps. he slept for 3 hours, then the rest of the night. we have been doing pretty decent on the pottying outside too considering i think this is his first time in a house. he is sooo smart too.

he is a gulper with food/water tho definitely. he takes all his medicine like a good boy though. hasn't even tried to chew on anything that i haven't given him yet.

this morning he is HELLA more energetic. and i think the food i have for him is better than what he was getting at the shelter because no more bloated tummy

Cool, I'm glad he's adjusting well!  Our old australian shepherd ate the same way too, but he was very healthy.  It was hilarious to give him a big chunk of frozen meat or hamburger, watch him chew off just enough to be able to gag it down, then practically choke on it trying to get it down  :haha:

Sounds like you're going to have a very good dog on your hands pretty soon

Sounds good, lots of protein for build up and some yoghurt for his digestion. I like that diet alot.

I have a game that would put his brain in overdrive and give him something to do. Lock him in a room or have someone distract him. Then put treats in different places, in his kennel, on a shelf, under a rug, on the couch, on a chair, in the bathtub, on the floor, in corners, under the sofa/bed and on window sills. Now go get him and tell him to search. Ones he realizes what the game is about he will be sniffing the house down trying to find the treats. Automatic reward for finding things and a good start for tracking training.

Thats pretty cool actually!

He already sniffs the whole house for food LMFAO

I just have to get him to stop eating his poop, which we are working on.
And teach him that puppy attack mode isn't so OK lol

You can get some sort of pills that make his poop "taste bad". You could also put some pineapple juice or pineapple pieces in his food, this will make the poop taste bad as well.
