Fire Guys '86 Toy Xcab with 300+hp pre-runner
« on: Oct 26, 2008, 10:38:07 PM »
Well, as requested I am starting a thread for the build up of my pre runner for our race team.  I'll start with some pictures and get into the stuff I am doing to it soon.

Having a 12 second Honda is just like coming out of the closet; You're going to surprise a bunch of people, but in the end you're still gay.

Man, I hate to do this to you but tomorrows Captain here at the fire station called in sick and I have been put on mandetory overtime.  I am going to have to cancel my trip down there this week.  I'll keep you informed on when I will be back down.  It sucks, but on the bright side its more $$$ for the projects right!?!

Yes, I am running Total Chaos Second generation suspension so it will have 12" of front wheel travel with a coil over, by-pass, and a bump shock per corner on the front.  The rear has a trussed Ford 9" with 35 spline chromoly axles, a by-pass shock, and a bump shock.  I am putting in a 22 gallon fuel cell and will be making a place in front of the rear axle to store stuff and that will be an extra tank for fuel that I will just plum into the fuel cell to fill it when it gets low.  We will be caging it front to back very similar to our race truck with a couple differences and upgrades with tricks of the trade we have learned over the years.  As for the motor, it is a 3.4 ltr supercharged Toyota V6 with larger injectors and run with an SDS computer.   I am figuring that motor with the supercharger is probably 280-285hp with headers on it, then I am adding larger injectors and aftermarket brain to tell it what I want it to do.  SDS is the computer we are running the race truck with and you are able to tune 30-40+ hp on the dyno when all is said and done.  Oh yeah, it will have the Tundra conversion fiberglass.

I actually have run the truck with the first gen TC kit so it was torsion bar with a single bypass shock before and it worked great.  The second gen TC kit will have the same wheel travel just with a coil over, by-pass, and a bump shock which should be nice.  The truck is in the state you see it in the pictures right now so we will all have to watch the progress as I am able to get it done!

Are you keeping the 4x4 or disconnecting it? I know a lot of dessert guys dont like the 4x4 because it limits front end travel.

Keeping it.  The race truck is 2wd so the prerunner/chase vehicle will remain 4wd.  I will have to service the CV boots quite often with 12" of travel up front, but that is the price to pay with this set-up.  Baja almost requires 4wd in some places, if we can't keep up a decent pace in the race truck we get stuck.  We will probably see who wants to go play in the silt of Baja next time we try to race down there and try to get a truck or two for the really bad silt beds and most of your trucks built the way they are with the very large tires would be able to move around the silt beds and pull us through if need be with ease! ;)
