Wiring in a clock from an '86 4Runner.
« on: Oct 24, 2008, 11:53:00 AM »
I have a clock from an '86 4Runner that I'd like to put in my '81 so I don't have to dig out my cell phone while on the trail.  The clock I have has four wires- black/white, green/ red rings, red/green and white/black.  I've spent countless minutes attaching these wires in various combinations to a battery in an attempt to get the clock to come on, with no avail.  I've searched for a wiring diagram that shows what goes where, but none that I find show the clock.

Please and thank you!   :hammerhead:

Black/White are grounds, just solder these to one common wire and groundŽem. Red/Green is probably swithced 12V, connect this to Acc. Green/Red rings is likely constant 12V so the clock wonŽt reset every time you cut the power to Acc, connect this to live 12V.

I take no responsibility for this info and if your wiring triggers some sort of butterfly effect that destroys the world then IŽm not liable. :disturbed:

But my Toyota wiring "experience" would make me try it like this.

Nope, not it.  I've already tried that, but I tried it again on the battery in my truck.  I think the clock may be bad...

I think the clock needs to be grounded and the constant 12V/Memory needs to be connected to 12V, then try connecting the Acc wire to 12V.

My headunit needs the memory connected to turn on, if I only connect the Acc and ground then nothing happens.

The white/black and black/white wires were connected to the ground terminal of the battery, and the other two were connected to the + side.  Nothing.

Printed circuit boards aren't forgiving when hooked up wrong. Sounds like you might have fried it already.

Bringing up an old thread, cause for some reason no one seemed to mention how to wire the clock, when I was searching before finally wiring one up. I've got an 82 2x4 wire harness in my 84 runner, But there actually should be a plug and play for the newer trucks. unless some jack ass used it for the radio.
Maybe its just mine, but the damn thing is labled if you unplug the harness from the clock and look at the printed board. top left is L+ Red/Green. Top right GN White/Black. bottom left is D+ green/red. Bottom right is C+ black/white

So L+ is hot switched, which I put with D+ Dimmer, Im assuming that 12v would make it the brightest, (let me know if im wrong) C+ is constant hot for memory, and of course GN is grounded.
