so last weekend i rolled my first rig. i only went wheeling once and that was through the con. ill be 18 next month and i had to drop out of college and come home for surgerys. so basically i just cost my family lots of money and time and now my rig is totalled. so me and my dad are hoping that the frame is straight so we can just swap a new body on and be good too go, cause we have already done that once before on it. but i dont know if we should stick wih a 1st gen or a 2nd gen runner(a roasted 3.0 is easy to find cheap). but i have a small small budget and the only place i know to look is craigslist. so anyways i need some help and wisdom from you guys.PS i distinctly remember a guy helping me yelling "hey will some one find a screwdriver or something i need to turn this engine off and i cant find the keys". thats after 4 rolls landing right side up with a 22re. here are some pictures....

:yikes:

everybody is relatively ok though? jeez man..howd that happen?

the other thing to consider instead of a body swap, is to swap your drivetrain (assuming its still good) into another rig with a strait body.

Werd, that may be a hard body to pull everything from to remove, so a drivetrain swap may be the way to go.  Didn't olyeller have a runner body he was trying to give away?  Seems like there was another in ca or souther oregon somebody was trying to give away too.  Either way, finding a body or finding a chassis shouldn't be too hard.

Oh, and good job, you didn't screw around on f'ing up that body did you?!  That's a bummer about messing yourself and the rig up man  :therethere:

yeah my hand punched through the windshield and was smashed when we rolled. the other guys are good luckily. i was worried about that. well wouldnt it be way easier to just put a new body on rather than trying to cut off nd re attactch the spring mounts and stuff? i mean we have swapped a body and it wasnt bad at all.

Duffil

Glad you're OK. I seriously doubt that the frame is OK though.

What caused the roll?

pyrosnow911

i was driving at night going abot 45 or 50 (the limit was 50) and we came up on a left turn that got really sharp and i didnt know so i tok the turn wider cause i didnt wanna roll and when a front and a back tire hit the side gravel i don know what happened but the back end swung aroung and i was looking across the road and then we drove back on caught traction and thats the end of it.

jimbo74

wow! that is insane! glad to see you are alive!

i would look into gettign a new truck, its hard to say through pictures over the internet, but with that much body structural damage, the frame is most likely bent.....

now anything CAN be fixed, but it is probably going to be a lot easier and cheaper in the long run to get a frame and body, people on the board here, or on pirate usually give tubs and frames away, or sell them very cheaply, you just have to look around for them....

its ok. i only wear it in cars and when i sleep now. i have a fracture in my c4 vertebra so when i try to lift too much or turn wromg i can feel it.

JanMarie13

Be very very very very careful with that c4 fracture!!  You don't want to hurt your spinal cord!!  Im sure the doctors have already told you that, but please listen to them!

So dude what will they do for your hand?

im really trying. its so hard to just sit. all i want to do is work on my truck cause i got it back now. but the doctor said my back should be all better in 3 weeks and its been 2 so almost! well they cant fix my tendon till its covered with skin(i guess the stuff the repair it with can get infected really really easy and if it does its really bad) but they cant do a skin graft till the flesh "grainualizes" back in so the graft will take....so basically i wait and try to heal myself and go in every 3 to 4 days to have the surgeon look at it and re dress it and pray that he says he wants to set a date for surgery. because physical therapy alone is going to take forever. so its a little discouraging right now but im just trying to eat healthy with lots of vitamins and sleep alot so i can grow my flesh fast. im just not the idle type of perspon so its hard right now

 :jawdrop:

Holy :pokinit:!! That looks like you guys had one wicked accident. Glad you made it out in mostly one piece and no one else was seriously injured. I've seen very similar accidents where no one got nearly as lucky....

You aren't old enough yet but I definitely got some  with your name on it when you turn 21

As for the body swap, its kind of 50/50 the way I see it. As long as your drivetrain and suspension and everything is okay then a body swap wouldn't be that bad, just don't jump the gun and hurt yourself before your body is ready. If anything is messed up though it seems buying a donor 4runner and swapping everything thats in good shape over would be the better way to go. Since you probably have a lot of spare time right now I would advise checking pirate4x4's classifieds daily. I see a lot of non running 4runners/trucks all the time on the vehicles for sale page. More times than not they are rolling chassis with a body and not much else and they usually go for pretty cheap. Keep checking craiglist but definitely check pirate.

Take it easy though man back injuries are no joke, I've got a couple friends who aren't supposed to be walking right now but took really good care of themselves and proved the doctors wrong. So don't strain yourself and let everything heal up 100% before you even think about turning wrenches.

thank you :) we did get extremely lucky and im really thankful. it was hard on my parents because they both had to bury a brother from car accidents. my dad and i inspected the frame yesterday.... and it looks straight. i thought the drivers rear spring pack was bent but it actuall y just ripped of the shackle mount from the frame so it looked funny. the front shackles are in the same angle as before too. and t think with the welded sliders, front spring hanger and rear bumper it beefed up the frame and saved it. everything looks as it was :) so i think the only thing needing replacement is the rear pass shock, it broke off, and thr rear axle housing bent on one side. and i already know the engine runs :) so i will have to put up smoe more in depth pics when we begin disecting it haha.

79coyotefrg

dude, its only been a week,  if that bone fragment moves  on your c4  your gonna wish you had  took it easy

i can imagine  your neck and back muscles are in bad shape

when i had my wreck it tore the ligaments away from my skull,  doctor said he didnt have a clue why it didnt break my c1 which would have killed me, but he called it a miracle

take you time

i know i was out there under my truck a week after my wreck but everything kept spinning around when i was on my back

yeah. well so far its been 2 and a half weeks and the doctor said three weeks to heal the c4. but i go in for surgery on my hand nov 5th(my birthday haha) and my mom said after surgery she wll take me to a spine doctor and get xrayed and checked outt for that
