Hello Again All!

I have started on my next truck already. This is a pretty basic and straight forward setup. I was really trying to go off of a budget and get the most bang for the buck I could. Some of the stuff kinda fell in my lap, and other stuff I had laying around and whatnot. Either way, its not finished or perfect, but I figured I would post up at the point I am at, so I don't have so much catching up to do later.  :usa:

Heres the current upgraded parts:

-2.5ton Rockwell axles (spicer u-joint style) supposed to have <30k miles on them.

-DIY4X Pinion brake kit w/ a single braided brake line from the master to the caliper.

-Homemade suspension links... This is left over chromoly rollcage tubing for the lowers and aluminum hex tube for the uppers. The lowers are just poly bushings for now, and the uppers are 3/4" rod ends.

-(4x) 3600lbs airbags... I came across these for a really good price, so I decided to run them.

-Customized shock hoops for 14.75" travel Procomp ES3000's.

-V Tread Tractor tires. These measure 42" tall X 16" wide. Center tread is about 1 3/8" deep. They are brand new. The guy I got them from, got them and 146 others for free with the wheels because a Russian tractor company had a scheduled downsizing. The guy was the highest bidder at the time because he was willing to take them for free and everyone else was going to charge to take them. Either way... They also came with an 8"x9.5" bolt pattern, 20"x12" wheel. I cut the centers out of these and out of a set of 2.5ton dually wheels I had and welded it all together.

I will update with better pictures as I get there. Feel free to comment and ask questions!

That is a cool 4Runner!!! So is it for mud or all around wheeling? Got any pics of it wheeling? V6 or for cylinder and how does it drive with that big arse running gear??  :beerchug:

Thanks guys!

I just finished getting it this far the last friday. So.. I dont have any wheeling pics yet. I am taking it out to a local spot by me this weekend, so I will have some pics tomorrow night.

It is a v6. I have had 3 of the 3.0L trucks so far. My old 4Runner was a 4cyl that I turbocharged. I really liked that combo because it was timing chain (3.0 is t-belt), it was light, and I really trusted it. So... Im saying that I might be swapping the V6 out for another turbo 4banger.

I really built it as an all around, easy to drive truck. We dont have so much of the rocks out here. We have lots more mud and water crossings and whatnot. That is why I decided to build it so tall, instead of cuting out the body and keeping it really low.

As far as the gearing in the rockwells.... I LOVE IT!!! Its really a big deal to me to have a reliable and powerful truck. This does that. I havent had it wheeling yet, but I took it in my back yard and was able to throw rooster tails in 4HI. Considering the weight and traction those tires get.... Thats pretty good I think!

Who did what?... Its the stock motor as far as I am aware. The Green truck was for sale for a while and I ended up trading it for a '05 FI Polaris 700 twin, that came with a factory snow plow, mudzilla's, and a warn winch. I was hoping to get cash for it, but I wasnt getting the kind of offers I wanted. I think the economy sucks enough right now to hurt the recreational markets.

Its an offroad only rig, and they do work. Regardless of what people think... I know guys on 5tons and 57" v-treads that run 4 links with those joints. That being said I AM AWARE everyone on the internet hates them. I dont think we need a discussion about it.  :stomp:

Looks like the next upgrade is going to be windshield wipers!!  :rofl2: :rofl2: That mud looks thick, looks like everyone got stuck. Did you guys throw that Tracker or Sidekick in the mud for traction
And the John Deer paint jobs are played out.  ::)

TopStreet

Haha... Yeah, the john deere tracker thing caught my eye because of the tractor tires and what not.... Otherwise, non of them make enough power in my eyes. I like that the are light, but they can barely get out of their own way. This is coming from a guy who used to have 42" TSL's on a stock 4banger with 4:10 gears. :hammerhead:

Seriously though, I probably wouldnt build one, because I would be able to help 1/2 to 2/3 of the people on the trail. It just doesn have any weight to throw around.

Windshield wipers are a joke with this stuff... The only way I could get it off was with an ice scraper. The pic I have up there of the tire all filled up and the one with all the leaves, showing the front bumper, were to kinda show everyone how thick it was. These tires have about 1 3/8" deep tread at the center. They are designed to clean themselves at low speeds (so farmers arent trying to throw mud everywhere) and the were clogging up all over the place.

That spot we were wheelin is cool though... Its only an hour away and it is always different. Next spring is could be all hard pack again... For the most part.

Plan to keep the V6 or any thought of a V8 in the future?
It would be fun to have something like that, just don't have much mud around here to enjoy it in.

Wow thats a huge 4 Runner.  Its cool seeing someone build something different.  Its not my style but I give you props for building something big and mean.  Keep it up man.

ADD

whats with the tires on the drivers side rotating opposite direction of the passenger side?

beyondlogic

one side pulls going forward and the other pulls going backward.  otherwise you would have no reverse traction.

i'm basing my knowledge on both this truck, and a guy i met locally who says he has an '87 3.0 4runner.

of course i didn't actually see proof on either door jam (i took their word), so it is possible i am incorrect.

id say an 87 MIGHT be possible if it was s super late 87, or the guy had the year wrong. i bought a runner and the lady i bought it from thought it was a 92, it was a 90. :dunno:
