What clutch would be recomended for a daily driver, I'm leaning towards a center force 1.  Also, what is the tool used to remove the pilot bearing. I remember breaking hella tools trying to remove that b!#ch on my 88 toy pick-up. :smack:

Sachs makes a decent clutch, Ive used them before.  The pilot is pretty easy to get out.  You'll need a drift or a 3/8" extension, wrap the tool of choice with electrical tape till it fits snuggly inside the pilot bearing.  Pack the cavity behind the bearing with grease, insert tool and hit it with a hammer.  It will pop out by using the hydraulic pressure of the grease.

hows the sachs. hard on the clutch pedal. slipping on moderate wheeling?
Thanks

It holds pretty darned good, and has nice pedal feel better than most of the reasonably priced ones out there.  The problem with centerforce is they dont slip.  I know that sounds dumb but by not slipping they wear the pressure plate really fast and having no give.  They also take enough pedal pressure to wear the thrust bearings on the crankshaft as well.

Sorry I have to ask, whats is a drift?

its a realy good clutch for $100 bucks. i even didnt follow the rules of breaking it in, due to right after i had it installed i was running on 3cylinders. but it doesnt slip at all offroad, and the pedal is normal. i would actually prefer it to be stiffer but its nice a smooth

A drift is basically a shaft generally about 1/2" in diameter that you use basically like a chisel.  Its a blunt faced punch.  Most of them are made of brass so they dont mar the surface of steel when used on it.

Is sachs the clutch offered as an OEM replacement on the Marlin website. Sounds good:)

Thats a basic Luk clutch.  As a rule Luk is the best clutch out there for a import application.

I use a long 1/4" drive socket that fits in the pilot bearing w/the grease. Stuff paper in the drive socket cavity to stop grease from getiing into it. I have always used the stock NEW clutches from Toyota with no problems at all. Next time I will try Marlins.

How about putting the new bearing in with out damaging it? Line it up with a socket that is the same size as the outer race of the bearing and tap it in?

The new ones work well. The rebuilt Toyota ones stink

Come on Prism, all clutches stink when you slip them too much.

You can buy relined clutches from places like autozone etc. but they are cheap garbage and should be avoided like the plague.

Toyota sells both new & rebuilt replacement clutch sets. With my gearing I really don't ever slip the clutch. I don't go real fast either
