Topic: what sould i pay for tacoma 3rd member

Hi I am doing a solid axle swap on my 89 v6 4runner.  I payed 450 for the 85 front truck axle which I beleive was to much but its a done deal and I'm not going to fuss over it.  I know my tuck is going to flex but it still wont climb anything with out at least a rear locker.  So I want a tacoma 3rd member with electric locker to retro fit into my v6 housing.  How much should I pay from a junk yard The only one I called quoted me $1000.  Think think this is ALOT!  If any one has one for sale tell me also I will want it in a month or two

Is my v6 rear 3rd worth anything because I wont need it.  It seems to me if a taco locker is 1000 mine should be worth 500.  I wonder if marlin would take my v6 for a discount on the taco.  I know alot of people may want it to up grade from a 4cyl 3rd or just replace a damaged one.

Wow they are trying to rape you!!  You can go to a Toyota stealership and get a brand new setup for under $800.  Id use your current v-6 3rd in the front of your truck as well.  Its about 20% stronger and has more casting in the 3rd so it doesnt flex allowing your ring & pinion to strip.

if you want 4.10s, 4.30s or 4.56s, you can buy one new for about $795 from toyota.  not much more than an ARB by itself

wow you guys are telling me a BRAND NEW 3rd member with a electric locker from toyota is only 800?  If I want 5.29 gears don't I only have to buy a rign and pinion gear set and bolt it in?  So for around 1000 I can have a new 3rd member with locker and 5.29 ratio

They aren't bs'n you. I bought a brand new high pinion e locker from marlin. Came in a toyota box all shiny and new. The high pinion was around $1000 or so.
I might have a taco elocker center section real soon. I broke my rear pinion, and had some other nasty housing damage, so i'm working on buying a whole complete housing with locker.
I might be interested in selling my old third. Just needs a new ring and pinion.
Only prob (or not) is there is no electric motor. I converted it to a cable. There are some pics on the axle etc forum under "BigMike here are some elocker pics for you" or something like that.

I recently picked up a complete TRD taco e-locker axle from hub to hub with 10,000 street miles, never used offroad, not a scratch on it for $650.

A used e-locker third usually goes for around $350 on the boards and complete axles from $600 to $800

A complete third with the e-locker and actuator is $1100 at the dealer I know this because I Work at a dealership I sell Toyota parts. It's $800 for a reg set up.
