removing tacoma third member

the main thing im doing is getting the third member out of the housing and im pretty shure the axles have to be slid out but i dont know how. how and the hell do you get them damn things out. i tried for a while but i couldnt figure it out. any input would be appreciated :maddest:

Did you take the 4 bolts out of the back of the brake drum area??

it is a trd e locker rear end and i have the axels out and the bolts all undone and i get a little wiggle out of the side that the locker motor isnt on but there is sumthing holding it up and i cant figure out what. any suggestions

then you might have to disconect the brake lines, and the drive line needs to be disconected to

may sound dumb, but your driveshaft is out already too right?

when i did my rear end, i had to work hard to get it out, it was in there tight, even with all the bolts off, i used a combination of brute strength, and screwdrivers as pry bars

you dont even know the kinda abuse i put that thing through and it barley budged. there has to be something in there. is there any bolts that hold the third member on tha also correspond to the e locker

make sure  the locker is UN locked

axles out  drive shaft off,  kick the piss out of it

Disconnect the brake lines and ebrake cable then they will slide out yes.. Make sure you drain your diff first. When you pull them out, pull them all the way out don't let them rest on your axle seals or they'll be toast.

2 of the long bolts that hold the electric motor on  go into the housing so  if you havent removed it, get it off

Those two long bolts are a pain in the ass if they are rusted, we fought with mine for 2 hours before we could get it out.  Steel bolts and an aluminum locker motor housing don't like each other and they weld fast.  We used heat and penetrant and a very BFH.  Good Luck

They are expensive but if you can get a hold of a slide hammer or fab up something along that line yourself it will make your job a lot easier.

Diff has to be locked to remove or install it.
