yesterday i got a CALL from my recruiter that i am leaving for bootcamp on the 30th off this month. I am nervouse but excited at the same time. :yikes:  I think this is a great thing because i finaly get to start and not wait for my original ship date the 2nd of march. Now all i need to do is worry about a mile and a half run.

Rockcrawlintoy

start running now and dont over do it. check out runners world.com for good tips and a training schedule. also make sure you have the right shoes, it makes a huge difference

i know i have been training for the past month but i don't know about the run i haven't run a mile and a half in a long time. but i guess i have to get it done because it is crunch time for me.

Rockcrawlintoy

i dont know how in shape you are as far as running. but start out running 3-4 minutes at a time with a minute break between them do that 3-4 times a 3-4 days a week. also eat a lot of protein to help the body repair any damage done to the muscles. also increase the amount of run time a minute every 3rd day to help you run longer. this is kind of a crash course but time is tight and it will help you from over doing it.

what is the time frame for the mile and a half run? is this like a pre-physical or just part of boot camp?

do intervals if you have the time now, varying intensities, it isnt that a mile and a half is a long run, it's that you need the stamina to do it

its a general test in shorts and a tee shirt you have to pass to pass basic training.

dont worry about the run, not a big problem. get ready for shin splints and being in the foreward leaning rest position (pushups) for long periods of time. really short meals and multiple people yelling in your face alot will be the standard. remember, according to your drill instructors you can do nothing right, and basic will end before you know it.

Seriously though it's all in your attitude.  Some people actually have FUN in boot camp.  :yesnod:

Good luck man   I'm old, fat, lazy and have bad knees and hips, but I think I could even lay down that time given the right circumstances.  I can't just bust out on a run, but sometimes when I'm hiking I'll  just bust out running and keep it up for a couple miles or more.  I'm sure you're in much better shape than me, so it shouldn't be a problem for you at all!

NAVY = Never Again Volunteer Yourself

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

awesome dude. if you have any more questions about the Navy feel free to ask...goes fer anyone thinking about it(i went threw Navy basic earlyer this year).
dont know if these are in effect yet but...the word around here is that basic is now longer. they are doing away with utilities(dark blue trousers and light blue long sleeve shirt) and  and going to a blue digital cammie.
the working blue and working white uniforms are being replaced with a kackie(brown...looks alot like USMC) top and black trousers. it depends on yer command how soon youll have to get it.

it might take me a quick minute to get back to you...busy with a-school...got 2 weeks left till i graduate.
