22re not firing on #2 cylinder
« on: Sep 10, 2008, 09:25:34 PM »
I just did an engine swap. Fired up the truck and can not get #2 cylinder to fire.
put in new plugs wires (lots of spark). Changed the injector. Checked the resistance on the plug and the injector every thing is within its limits. But now I'm lost any suggestions
Thanks

did you verify that you actually have spark @ the number 2 plug?

did the engien work before the swap? what about the status of the computer?

psi  check on #2?  did you try to put a light in the inj. plug (there is a speail tool for this, but it can be done with out one) and see if it flashes as you crank the motor?
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

I'd definitely check compression, and try another ECM.  Another thing to check, if your getting fire, and inj. is working, is to check the valve clearance.  Is the spark plug wet?  What is on it if it is?

We need to know everything you've done to troubleshoot this.  Kinda help narrow it down for ya.  Like did everything work on both motors before swap, and history of used motor?

Miles, check the valve lash, that motor we just swapped had fuel (lots, swapped injector after testing), lots of spark (changed wires, plugs, cap, rotor and tested coil/ igniter) therefore check valves. Considering exhaust is.0012 and intake is only .008, completely cranked down lash will burn the valves and result in the "dead cylinder".
Try this and get back to me, DanS

Did you mean .012 and .008, no 0.0012?

.012 sorry I stand corrected, I hit the '0' one too many times, DanS

"But now I'm lost any suggestions"

Trace the wire from the injector back to the factory splice (about a foot or so). The wires do come loose. I bought a $700 4 runner with that issue and the guy did not know what was wrong. Cut the bad section of the wire and re solder.
