Paint on the motorcycle tank is SCREWED AGAIN!!!  Someone just freaking kill me already.  It was looking perfect, tank has been sitting in my living room for two weeks.  I go to give it a final polishing and I find this.  Anyone have any ideas?  I am considering finding a regular old metal tank and painting that instead of this freaking junk.

This may be a dumb question... but is the tank plastic? You can't paint plastic tanks, the gas seeps out through the plastic and destroys the paint. That is why graphics that are applied to dirtbikes with plastic tanks have holes in them... lets the vapor out without messing up the graphics. I am not familiar with your bike, so I do not know if it is plastic or not.

THAT is exactly what I am beginning to think is happening!  Wish I would have known about the plastic thing.  It is happening around the lower area of the tank.  There is about an inch of gas in the tank.  MFer.  Time to get a new tank cause there ain't any graphics going on this bike.

Looks like what we call a solvent pop. Yes, you can paint plastic. Most car bumpers are made of plastic, as well as Saturn and Corvette. What sort of paint are you using, Automotive, Rattle Can, or...? If you are putting on multiple coats without letting the solvents evaporate, the solvent will come out eventually, leaving an exit hole or bubble. To fix this, you need to take all of the effected paint off. You cannot paint over what is happening, it will only get worse. Sorry.

you missed the point of why he said you can't paint plastic.  He's speaking specifically about plastic fuel tanks, where the fuel will seep through on a molecular level, and then evaporate.  He's not talking about ALL plastics.
