Coyote
« on: Aug 14, 2008, 10:23:20 AM »
quick question what is about the average time that coyote takes to get through?  im not on a time constraint but im trying to figure out if it would be better to camp or try a one day trip.  Obviously camping would be nice and i might just camp but im still wondering what the time frame would be like.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Like every trail out there, it depends on your rig and your abilities. If you are comfortable with your truck, Coyote is easily done in a few hours.

The gateway to coyote after red lake is pretty hairy, after that not so bad...yea id say you can make to coyote in a couple hours from trail head.

I run it in a day and I am beat afterwards. I get at the trailhead at 10 and can be done and out by 3ish if you can jam through.

From Sandflats, in a capable rig, you can make it to Coyote in about an hour and fifteen minutes if the trail is clear.  The gatekeeper, as it used to be called, is no more.

I left Hanford at about 4:30pm Friday after work, and stopped a couple of times for gas and a quick break. I made it thru to Coyote by 8:30pm. We setup our tents, and were sitting by the camp fire at about 9:15pm. It was nice and cool there.

Its a long drive if you want to make it in one day, by the time we got home the next day, we were beat. From Fresno, it shouldnt be too bad, but its still a long drive going up.

Did anyone here end up going?  I ran it Saturday and came out Sunday with a group of jeeps and a fj40.  I saw a built 1st gen 4runner in there already camping.

I had to erase what I originally wrote in reply to your question above. Here is a better attempt at articulating my feelings:

Just please be advised a local Toyota company is hosting an event there this weekend, and speaking from personal experience, I do NOT enjoy wheeling NOR camping anywhere near those guys for the love of god.

Doign coyote and now its time to get some last minute fixes in and load up for tommorrow morning.  Hope to see someone there.  My truck might have some white fenders after tonight.  I will try to post some pics when i get back last time we didn't take any pics so maybe this time i will get to it.
