Shamb

just wanted to give an update.. this morning my Pop's passed away in his sleep after a long struggle.

he was staying with a near by neighbor and long time family friend. they checked on him this morning at around 6am and he was asleep but okay.

when they went into to wake him for breakfast he was no longer breathing. After about 2 hours of CPR... that was ..that..

it really hasn't sunk in yet to be honest, i'm at a lose for words right now.

All I can say is that he has bestowed the values, morals and work ethic that I carry with me today and for that I am eternally greatful.

He was a good hard working man that took care of his family as best he could and was well liked by many people.

Love you Pop.
R.I.P to my Papa, I miss you pops......

Sorry man. I know it was a long trip. I never knew my maternal grampa and barely knew paternal one...but, your grampa and some others I've heard about, here and elsewhere, are my inspiration  for the time when/if I am blessed with grand children.

This brings to mind lyrics to a Brad Paisley tune...especially the second verse:

When I Get Where I'm Going lyrics

When I get where I'm going
On the far side of the sky
The first thing that I'm gonna do
Is spread my wings and fly.
I'm gonna land beside a lion
And run my fingers through his mane
Or I might find out what it's like
To ride a drop of rain

[Chorus]
Yeah when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I'll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here

I'm gonna walk with my grand daddy
And he'll match me step for step
And I'll tell him how I missed him
Every minute since he left
Then I'll hug his neck

[Repeat chorus]

So much pain and so much darkness
In this world we stumble through
All these questions I can't answer
So much work to do

But when I get where I'm going
And I see my maker's face
I'll stand forever in the light
Of his amazing grace
Yeah when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
Hallelujah
I will love and have no fear
When I get where I'm going
Yeah when I get where I'm going

Shamb

thanks for the kind words, it does mean alot to me. When I got to the house I just couldn't believe it so I had to walk into the room and see them giving him CPR... every time I close my eyes I picture it... I think the image will be permanently burnt into my memory forever.

I teared up when I read this

"I'm gonna walk with my grand daddy
And he'll match me step for step
And I'll tell him how I missed him
Every minute since he left
Then I'll hug his neck"

I've been thinking about getting a tattoo of some sort to remember him by. I've bounced around the idea for over a year now but just haven't committed to something specific yet.

Over time the image will fade.  I watched the paramedics perform CPR on my dad, knowing that he was gone.  It still pops in my mind once in a while.  But eventually it will fade into better images.

Here is something that gets me through the deaths in my family.  I look at it this way.  They are part of me and my everyday life.  I talk to them all the time.  Like they are still there.  Their spirit is still alive, just cause the body is gone, doesn't mean that their soul is.
But everybody deals with a passing in their own ways.  And in time you will too!
