Does anyone run an oil accumulator?  Just thunking out loud about extreme off camber stucks.( It happened to me, truck was basicaly sitting on the tailgate, no oil pressure.)

explain this for me what it is and how it is installed and such
this would be real nice not having to increase the rpm just to turn of the oil light.

The way I understand it, the accumulator holds 1.5 to 3 qts of oil under pressure in a tank in the cab of the truck.  If the oil pressure in the engine drops below the pressure of the tank, the tank opens and pressurizes the oil system in the engine.  As the oil pressure comes back up, the excess oil goes back in the accumulator.  You would have to pressurize it again, though.  I was wondering how long the pressure would stay in the engine( would it be long enough to get yourself out of a jam).  A lot of drag racers use accumulators,  I didn't know if anyone used them with success off road.

Oil accumulators wrer also used in turbo applications.  Normally mounted higher than the turbo, filled by normal oil pressure, they would drain back after the engine was shut down to provide lube for the still spinning turbine element.  This would prevent bearing failure from lack of lubrication.  (The #1 cause of fires and turbo failure)

An acumulator sounds like it would work, depending on how long you needed the pressure and how much oil it would hold. But what about just putting some baffles in the oil pan.
