I really like those tires.
Got the base coat on...gonna need to wet sand it.  Don't know how long it will take to set up enough though with t\he humidity.

Arggg.  So humid the paint wrinkled.  Had to wet sand the whole tank down and spray it again.  Brought it inside this time.  Killing me.  Stoopid weather.

I had to strip the tank cause the paint was ruined from the humidity, but I have it redone and got the first 3 coats of clear on.  Will need more clear and then wetsanding then more clear, but I am at least moving forward.

looking good AJ.

Have you worked on a bike before, or are you winging this with a shop manual?

CTENG in KS

Winging it...but lets be realistic...this thing is about as simple as it gets.

Seriously, an older air cooled 2 stroke is about as easy to work on as spreading cheesy spread on a cracker!

it is yes, but I noticed he had the forks apart for painting, so I wasn't sure.  I recall not many people wanting to tackle forks...but this was 10 years ago when I was in that industry.

CTENG in KS

The seals were blown and there is water in the forks.  They are simple too, seal goes in, inner tube down the seal, one bolt up thru the bottom of the outer tube.  All done, just add 10W30.

So I ordered the front Distanzia and the front Harley fender for the rear of this bike came in today.  The levers did come out very nice and I got a throttle clamp as well.  Little by little it is coming together.

so you're ditching the stock rear fender, or using it as well as the hardley unit?

CTENG in KS

Stock rear fender and the rear triangle section of the frame will be removed, the new Harley fender will mount low to the tire and to the swing arm.

I is too, but I am watching the Olympics and polishing the tank, so not that excited.  Finished 9 coats of clear and final wet-sand.  It is very smooth, now to make it SHINE!

Fender and oil tank need to match...fender has to have a matching stripe.  They will be easier now that I have got the technique down.

Oil tank? surely you mean fuel.

Oh...Mr. Jokester...pre-mix.

CTENG in KS

This bike has a throttle controlled auto oil mixing unit.  You fill the oil tank and the fuel tank seperately and they mix as the air/gas mixture flows outta the carb.  No premixing needed.

try to block off the oil mixer before it takes a crap on you. its always better to mix your own 2-stroke oil and gas from my findings....
i had a kawasaki x-2 (jet ski) and the oil mixer took a crap then the motor when i rebuilt it i blocked off the mixer so i could mix my own gas

I have to say, it looks like it's coming together nicely!  Kinda makes me wish I'd kept my rd350... but only kinda.

It is running, had no seat or handle bar controls as it was a parts bike for a restoration.  It will fire with one kick no problems.
