I want to know how much differance there is between the 2nd gen and 3rd gen ext cab. I have a 2nd gen ext cab now but want more room for my family. I thought about a 4runner but I think I want to update to a newer body style and do not like 2nd gen runners. Any oppinons please post. What should I do!

Well the ex cab on a third gen is bigger....just take a look at one and see if the kids will fit in the back...there are jump seats and seat belts for two....I've  stuffed two 6 foot tall people in my ex cab before (not recommended but it can be done)

I can also fit virtually all of my camping gear and tools in the cab as well......

its nice to have the extra size of the excab on the 3rd gens, you can fit people under about 5' without them complaining to much. and you can keep more gear secure and dry. although the wheelbase is longer.

the second gens are nice, espicially since you already have one and its got a sexy paint job on it... but you could throw a seat in the bed or something and build a cage for the back. :dunno:

I dont know anyone with a 3rd gen ext cab. All the guys I wheel with have 2nd gens. So how much bigger are they? I have no seat in mine they are too small so I guess it would be better than what I got. I thought I wanted a runner but I like having a bed. But Me and my wife can only go... so ya

3rd gen extra cabs are about 10 inches longer than 2nd gen extra cabs I think.   Std cabs for both 2nd and 3rd gens are 103" wheelbase.  3rd Gen extra cabs and longbeds have a 122" wheelbase and 2nd Gen extra cabs and longbeds have 112" wheelbase.

AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

there is a back seat, thats a huge plus.  Plenty of room for small kids.  At the MCR a few years ago, I had 2 girls around 5'2" and a dog in the back seat.  I had my seat all the way back, and mikerob had his most of the way back.  Its definitely tight, but not that bad.

i love my 94 ext cab d/d. not to many people ride back there but its nice when you need it. I know you said you want a newer truck but maybe you could find a nice 1st gen 4runner your passengers would thank you!

I am still weighing my options, runners are top heavy tho. I got a while to figure it out but just trying to think about it now.

you might have to wheel a little bit differently, but i was very surprised at how far over my runner would lean before it finally did go over....it was definitely up there... :yesnod:
