I am thinking of powersteering upgrade or a front Lockrite. I am ruuing 33 BFG muds on a 85 pickup wint 4.7 low. I only have cash for either one. Question is, how difficult will my steering be on rock with the locker installed? Will it be kind of ok to still turn???

Do you have a rear locker?  I would get PS or a rear locker before a front.   :turtle:

It will be difficult on high traction surfaces like rock.

If you opt for a front locker, get an Aussie instead of the LockRight.  There are a variety of reasons, but in this case the softer spring design allows it to unlock easier for turning but locks when necessary.  Mine is fairly friendly most of the time but on occasion gets difficult to turn with.

If you wheel on the rocks I wouldn't put a front locker in without power steering, but if you're mostly on the dirt you might be ok with an Aussie.  I've never been without power steering so I don't really know.

I've wheeled without PS for a couple of years.  It gets old after a couple of minutes.  The steering wheel basically does what it wants to do, you just control the gas and gears   That and keep your fingers out of the steering wheel.  You will get them broke if they are caught in there while the wheel turns 1000mph on it's own.

:dunno: its harder to steer, but not impossible.  I've wheeled several times w/o powersteering, and it hasn't been that bad, esp. since you're only turning 33"s

I have an ausie in the rear. Has anyone done a manula conversion to the elocker. Like a home made conversion. I am not a electric fan.

there's a cable conversion, and a simple lever conversion, which requires you to get out of the truck to activate it

From experience it sucks even without a locker, not that it is impossible but wheeling without ps you have to be ready for the steering wheel to be yanked out of your hands or suffer a sprained wrist or broken thumb. I could imagine how much worse this could be with a locker. I installed ps in my truck just last week due to suffering a sprain from my last run. I have all the info needed to do the swap it isn't that difficult.

Very bad.  I bought two of the cable kits.  This was before they realized they don't work on the front, so we had to make our own version of the push/pull things for the front.  It was awful.  I just ended up ordering a new e-locker motor from Toyota after messing with it.

really?  Hadn't heard that.  Good to know, seeing as I've got an elocker I was gonna put up front as well :yesnod:  Guess I'll start looking more into keeping it electric.

I installed the lokrite and sold the E-locker at the last minute. When I installed the lokrite I only used one spring in each pin slot. The locker feels alot lighter in the front without the power steering. Its actually not that bad. But I will be installing Power steering though.. soooon very soon.
