well i tore my meniscus two years ago snowboarding and it finally got bad enough that i couldn't work. im an electrician and when doing outlets or anything squatting my knee would lock up and i'd end up crawling across the job site to find a wall to hang my leg off to force it to straiten out. then i couldn't walk for about two days after. what pushed it over the edge was i went to change a tire on my tacoma and after one squat i couldnt move it. heres a couple pics first is a week after surgery and then a couple weeks ago... went in with the idea that they were going to clean it up and id be walking out of there in 45 min and ended up having two and a half hours of surgery repairing crap and cant work for another 6 months, ive been laying in bed for the better time of six weeks finally got to start physical therapy and put some weight on it last week. hurts like hell but im so stoked to be able to move around a bit more freely now. hopefully start gaining some muscle back. lost 3.5 inches of muscle in that leg. its ridiculous how fast you can lose your strength, i cant even do a single leg lift. they stick you on some funky machine like one of those ab toner thingies you see on tv that clenches your muscle with electricity to supposedly get some strength back. im the kind of person that cant hold still for more than 15 min so not being able to do anything has been torture. so who out there has had their meniscus repaired and can tell me what more to expect and give me some hope!? still cant sleep at night so figured id post up out of sheer boredom and maybe someone can give me some insight on my recovery period, they tell me i have a window of time to get my leg strait so ive been working on that putting weights on my knee and letting it push it down but its not working too well, cant bend it more than about ninety degrees and ive been working on it non stop for the last week.. is that what i should expect? i plan on asking my doctor or pt guy all this stuff but i dont see him for a day..

I have had my knees scoped about 4 times now.  Recovery time usually depends on how extensive the surgery is.  The first three times they just went in and snipped the tear off and pulled out the pieces.  No big deal on those ones, just a week of very light weight on crutches then over about two months I was back to normal.  The last scope they took out all of it and that took me about three months to recover.  About three years ago I was at a bar with my buddies and I was standing on a curb being drunk and yelling crazy stuff when this chick came from behind me and jumped on my back for a piggy back ride.  Needless to say we both went down to the ground and I ended up tearing my ACL.  This one took me about 6 months to recover and I am still not back to 100% because of the previous damages.  I just have to remember to not put too much stress on my leg.  You just have to remember to listen to your DR. and PT and do what they say.  It does suck but it will pay off in the end if you stay with it.  The main problems that I have is that the cold makes my knees really sore and sometimes if I am over exerting myself then my knee will swell up a little bit.  Good luck to ya and I hope you never have to go what I have gone through.

We've had rash of guys at work that have had surgery lately!  One co-worker had torn his achillies tendon playing basketball, and as soon as he was able to walk and get back to work, 4 months later, he blew out his ACL in his knee!  Then got another co-worker who basically has worn out his ACL's in both knees, due to being bowlegged, he's out getting them replaced with cadaver ACL's.  Another had his shoulders worked on and has been out for 4 months and recommends that you do one then the other.  He can't wipe his own butt!  Then #4 had his entire kneecap blow out top, bottom and and most of his ACL.  He may never walk the same again.

I have alot of wear on my back to my ankles, and I try to take care of what I got left, because I don't want to be laid up after surgery.  That and financially I'd be screwed!

But it looks like your recovering nicely!  And we didn't want to see you in your underoos!  :bath:
