when doing an sas, instead of drilling through the frame. couldnt u just weld on a hanger for the shackle?

Yup but if you used a spring with any arch at all youd have a monster truck!  Ive seen it done that way and it works just like having the shackle mounted in the frame, but it also acts like a super long shackle.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Skinny_Pedal

couldnt u just use a stock height shackle to level it out?

A stock shackle wont allow enough movement of the springs.  Thats why everyone uses longer shackle.

well how tall are u talking, because i will just use the stock 2wd rears and not add a leaf. im afraid of drilling through the frame, i have a gut felling that is the one thing ill fu*k up

Its easy there is no reason to be affraid of it especially since you are getting the kit from Marlin right?  The kit includes a set of jigs to drill the frame by.

im not buying a kit. i did plan on buying his jigs and shakcles though. but i want to tell people i built it. show them what i can do, not just buy a kit and put it on. wheres the pride in that. but marlin has a dam nice kit, i just want it to be built by me

Its actually not that hard.  Its like painting a car, the painting isnt what makes it look great its the preperation.  (although a painter that know what they are doing sure helps)

I didnt use any jigs when I drilled mine, beings they are mounted about 1" above where everyone else mounts theirs.  I moved the sleeve up as far as possible so I could have the "slower arch" of a long shackle without having it hang down too far.  Im going to move the tube forward about an inch for a better shackle angle and more clearance one of these days.

Definately go thru the frame and with the jigs how could you go wrong

Hyena

If you put the shackle under the frame it will flex better on the trail.  But on the road it is really squarely.  If you plan on using just the rear pack you might think about it.  The rear springs alone won't be enough to hold all that weight.  They will flat in an instant.  I added 4 leaves under my stock leaves for a total of 7 leaves and it looks good.  Not flat at all.  I did have just 6 leaves but that was still to soft and they sat flat.

robrocketanski

don't put the shackle mount on the bottom. no regrets but if i sas again i wouldn't put them on the bottom. i thought it would be cool and i could use my rears up front. it is ok but way too tall. i do have the longest front springs i have heard of yet but  ::) to get the correst caster i now have a short shackle and a HUGE drop front hanger.

robrocketanski

ps those are 38.5x15 ground hawgs. note they are below the body :shocking: but i still have my body lift on. i will remove that and maybe be ok.

WHITE_TRASH

What front spring did you use on that truck?

my rears. I have over 100" os spring. the truck has all yota parts except mazda rears (which are destined for disposal) and some cool stuff from marlin. and a downey alternator too.
