R.I.P High School crawler # 2

just started the frame part.  i said screw the hoop.  i have all the frame pieces cut and i ran out of blades for the portaband.  im gonna take my time on this actually.  out of all the things i rushed on this truck (wedging washers between my tierod ends( ) half assed shackels and all this doohickeys) im actually gonna take my time on this.  I just finished installing power steering on my truck.  I have to get a new steering shaft cause the slip yoke is seized and the pump doesnt allow the steering wheel to turn back by itself.   Oh yah one more thing.  < My power steering fluid is brandnew and I checked the fluid one last time and it looks like oil mixed with coolant.  Is that good?

I finished the welding and grinding on my flatbed frame today.  I just need to brace it some more, make and weld on the mounts and then think about what to put inside for the bed.  I am going to try and put it on wednesday but no promisess.  thats when i can get pintures.  Do you have any pictures of yours yet Jared?

no pictures yet sorry.  but ill get some ASAP.  Im gonna finish the frame and just wait for a while.  i gotta get rid of all of the junk before i finish my truck.  i have a truck bed in my backyard and 2 junk motors along with a longbed frame.  Oh yah the parents are mad.......

im gonna finish my flatbed towards the end of december.  its a bolt on deal so it should be pretty easy.  my goal is to finish the flatbed then work on NEWKid's rig and nothinglefts.... im moving into a new house with a better garage and im getting better tools so fabbin shouldnt be so hard.....   taking a break off my rig.  i hate to say this but im sorta fed up with my truck for now...

well i finally got back to building my flatbed... heres a sneak peak.....

heres a picture of the start of the left side portion of the frame... notice my rear springs..... i used 57 inch waggoneers and i flipped em reverse so they are exactly 11 inches forward so if i dont get the desired flex or lift out of them i could just switch to chevies real easy.  I didnt get that much lift out of them cause they settle way to fast and way to much so i plan on taking a chevy spring pack and cutting the back off to match it with a waggoneer main leaf...   notice that when you flip the waggys reverse they still use the stock rear spring hanger and the shackle angle is near perfect.  for the front i took the top 3 leaves from a waggy and the top 3 from a stock rear pack and mixed em up.  i went waggy main, toy rear, waggy , toy rear, waggy, toy rear and i got about 5 inches of lift out of em.  they flex awesome.  I used a 5.5 inche eye hole to eyehole shackel for that setup and shackle angle is near perfect also....

looks good bro, keep up the good work.  seeing the pics it looks like you have a body lift.  and your truck was the same color as my new cab, that is a sick color how come you painted it flat black?

the truck was origannly white.  then they painted it red then gloss black.  then i got a hold of it then i painted it flat black.  that rear section of the cab is just a fresh coat of flat black trying to dry up... got some more for you guys

i got most of my ideas from chris giegers trailtoy. that is the best type of flatbed ive everseen so i built something similar to it
i still have to make the hoop and stuff but it shoudl be done by this weekend....

I grinded all the welds down and i went over all of them with a wirefeed.  The thickness of the metal is .120 wall... the stick welder was to powerfull or i couldnt get it to penetrate the best... Right now the flatbed wieghs about 95 lbs and i need some weight on the rear cause the truck doesnt sit level with chevies and toy rears up front.... im debating on whether to use sheet metal, diamond plate or wire mesh... what would you guys use... i need some weight back there....

Flopped the rig today... didnt do to much damage but damn... it was one hell of a ride...

i had some chevies sittin around and i was gonna build a rear pack using a waggy main and a 2wd chevy pack cut down to match the waggy main... the waggy mains you have to weld 11 inches forward and the rear hanger doesnt have to be changed... you could use the stock hangers...   Well my buddy gregg wanted to trade my waggies for a interior roll cage so i took the offer.. now i got a interior roll cage and it kept the right side windshield pillar from crushing... pretty good for not being a exo cage... the damage was pretty minimalo

I made theweather to my advantage... brandon miller stopped by my house like 6 months ago and said that his windshield would pop out when its windy... what do you know i actually though of something smart finally...
