well seeing as i was an integral part of the D50 build, im not too worried.  i learned what and what not to do with rockwells when building colbys.

well, tonight i didnt get any pics, but i also did get much done either.  borrowed the plasma cutter from work and cut the backing plates off the rear axle. ill get the 11" grinder tomorrow and clean it up all nice and clean.

ended up not shaving these housing.  after much deliberation and measuring it was determined that i would only be gaining 3/4" of clearance and it would have been a pregnant dog to get it all dialed in, so i skipped it out.  no big deal because ill be gaining 3" of clearance over the old 14 bolt anyway.

on the front housing i welded up some holes and get the spring perches all dialed in and ready to go, just need U bolts and plates.  also using a 6ft cheater bar i was able to break loose the TRE nuts and get the tierod off the knuckles so i can get the 40yo grease out of there.

i was going to reinstall the chunks, but im going to have to take them down to les schwab and have them use the semi truck impact gun to get the pinion nuts loose so i can get the pinion brake rotors on.  so tomorrow ill so that and get them back in the housing for final assembly.

the idea is to have the rear axle completely assembled and ready for pinion brake install.  the front will be a bit more involved with buying new boots, gaurds, histeer, pinion brake.

ill try and get some pics at the end of tomorrow night with the axles complete.  then ill be taking a brake until i get some parts.

what rotors you using for brakes? and are you bring the WMS in at all or leaving it stock... and are the front and rear axles going to match in width and if not how are you going to compensate so it tracks right.

not sure what you are meaning by WMS, but i think you are talking about the wheel base, and its at 120 right now and will stay the same.  as for that width they rockwells are 70" with the hubs flipped in, whereas a D60 id 69.5"  the current wheels have 3.75" backspacing and the new ones will have 4" so i will be exactly the same width and length.  basically im going for the exact same look with the rocks as i have with the D60/FF14.  the idea is for it to look totally sleeper.

off the les schwab to have the pinion nuts broke loose, then full assmebly by the end of the weekend.

WMS= wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface, so axle width basically

oh okay, well the reason i asked is cause the first pic you have up of the rocks in stands.... the rear looks A HELL of alot skinnier in width.

but explaining in words is harder for me to understand.... without photos to help explain. thats how i learn
im patient.

how did the pinion nut breaking go?

all broke loose and ready to go.  the rear is narrower than the front in stock form on rockwells, but when the hubs are flipped in it becomes the same width as the rear.

rear axle is all finished up.  fully sealed everything, the idea is to never have to take it apart again.

since a rockwell housing is square kyle had a good idea to just drill a hole in the housing for the leaf spring center pin and use the housing as a perch.  i thought this was a great idea and helps keep the rig as low as possible, so i drilled some holes and ground a nice smooth area for the spring to sit.  i will have some U bolts made when the time to slap these under get a little closer.

as for the front i will work on getting the chunk back in it tomorrow and finish cleaning it up.  since i dont have any axles for it right now ill probably just leave the hubs and bearing unpacked until the shafts get here.

after that its a waiting game as to when i will get the money from my 1 tons, could be next week, could be next month.  we will see.

ill get some pics of the progress later.

its way easy to get kicked outta the bear, my one buddy got kicked out 3 weekends in a row, the first time he was in the bathroom puking, i guess he deserved that one, but the next time they accused him of smoking dank in line and kicked him out before he got in, and the next time he had just got his first drink and was laughing his ass off and they tossed him for being too drunk... off one sip! haha, were you really too drunk? kinda sounds like it.......
