Wheel spacers and new hubs on brake upgrade?
« on: May 30, 2008, 04:36:53 PM »
Do I need wheel spacers and new hubs? I am putting 95 ifs brake calipers and 82 fj 40 roters on my 1981 toyota pickup. I wanted to make sure I had all the parts before I tore into it.

Are the calipers 4 cylinder or 6?  If they are 6 depending on the wheel you may need to grind the cooling fins on the outside of the calipers down to clear the wheels or grab some cheapy 1/4" spacers.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

I read somewhere that I might need hubs from an 82-85 toy. Can't remember where though. can anyone confirm this?

There's 2 different style hubs, if you take off your front wheel and see a threaded hole between every lug you have the early ones and will need a set of the later hubs. Or, apparantly use the earlier FJ40 rotors, 81 and below I think. Here's a pic of the 2 different mounting types, early on the bottom and late on the top.
