Toyota Trekker

I was going to put this in 4wd discussion but wanted more of a "chit chat camp" talk about Trekker's.  I might be buying one very soon that is in perfect condition (all original) and am going to use it for off-road but not pure rock crawling (mainly do not want to screw up the body since they are so rare).  Just checking to see what everybody thought about trekkers.  I am not asking advice about buying one.  I am just seeing what everybody thought and what mods everybody has seen to these trucks  :yesnod: .  Pretty much...post up pics of sweet trekkers that you have seen (the very few that are out there)!  If you have never heard of a Trekker it is time to now google (they are a more of a precursor to the 4-runner).

I will put up pics of the one that I am trying to get soon!

the only thing i dont like is the fiberglass bed.

There's also a guy making replacement rear bodies for these, toyotafiberglass or something like that  :dunno:

:thumbs: go for it!!  I think they're cool, and I'd hate to see one trashed rockcrawling :gap:

I don't have pics, but I've seen one I really liked, was on 33"s, locked front and rear, ARBs, 4.7s in the t-case, winch, and a kayak rack on the roof :thumbs:  an expedition vehicle sorta.

how can you afford this? do you still have the truck?

i own an 1982 toyota trekker it is a great truck and the fiberglass is much stonger then you would think

The 79 is about to part ways with me.  I have had it for about 5 years and haven't been able to use it like I would like.  Registration and getting it street legal is going to be a pain too.  There is a guy about 27 miles from here (which out here is like your next door neighbor town) that has a trekker and wants to get rid of it.  I would like it so I can have a DD and trail rig.  Plan to put in a 3rz when I finally have a different job (about 3 months).  So I have managed to save some more $$ and along with the truck I think he will do it (the trekker has been sitting for about 2 years and used to be his DD till he got a landcruiser).  I love 1st gens but being 6' 5" is pretty crappy in a regular cab...figured I could do something to get more leg room out of a trekker than I can my truck.  I'll keep you up to date on if I get it.

so is it set up like a 4runner?

it is and it isn't it is just a pick up with the back walll cut out and then they stuck yhe fiberglass back halif that was made by winnibego industries on the back of it has a seat that folds into a bed it was meant to be like a mini camper/suv type thing they are pretty cool i have had mine for about 6 years now and would by another if icould find a good one but they are few and far between
