i think the single greatest thing you could do for the sake of your own sanity-is trash all that garbage under the hood and weber it. register it in downyville or nevada for smogs sake
Smog laws are changing my friend...2010 will be the end....

since it is an 88 2wd with a 22r, you have the second generation 22r, which is unlike the previous version, but very similar to the 22re

my truck is running the 85+ 2wd engine with the pear shaped exhuast ports as yours should be.... let me know if you need any info or things on it, i have found out a lot in my own quest for stuff

Thanks for the pic.

What is the actual function of it?

nothing... it just traps some of the incoming air flow to essentially make the engine quieter

i usually have the whole plastic part of the intake removed, its jsut on there because i need to smog it soon. i actually regularly run my intake with jsut the air filter base (air horn as they call it on chevies) and this setup:

I'd do that, but I'm looking for a true CAI. It'll probably be redesigned for smoother flow also. Are throttle body spacers any good on these things?

we dont have a throttle body, we have a carb

also, no one makes a true aftermarket COLD air intake..... i am sure with some fab skills, it wouldn't be too difficult, but my truck moves jsut fine, so i leave it...

there have been tests that show while driving that the intake temperature is only slightly above ambient air temperature even with a stock intake, that's good enough for me
