Interchangable Hubs?

Okay, well I just got my hands on a 85 front axle.  But it has manual locking hubs.  Can I pute the automatic lockers from my 81 front axle on this one?  And can you put automatic locking hubs from a IFS rig on an 81 front axle?  Please let me know.

No you cant use ifs hubs on a solid axle, most of the parts are the same but not the locking collar.  Ifs axles are 27 splind while the solids are 30.  Would you take a pic of your hub, Im curious about them.

if you're talking about drive flanges, you can use the ones from an FJ80 as they have the same number of splines as a straight axle hub.  if you're talking about real auto hubs, don't even bother with those pieces of junk

I agree, do not use the auto hubs. they will leave you in the mud one day.

I have seen an 84-85 extra cab without locking hubs.  It was weird.

Ignore that entire first post.  I meant to ask if I can put my manual locking hubs from my 81 on an 85 axle that has auto lockers on it now.  And if I can put manual locking hubs from a IFS rig in a 81 axle.

Alright, well I need to find a set of manual lockers for a solid front axle.  I am going to do a knuckle service on this 85, scuff it down, and paint it, and I'll get some pictures up soon.

Why do you need a set of lockouts for the 85 axle?  Id just rob the hubs off of your current axle and make 86sas buy his own

now hes keeping the 81. so hes gonna find a ifs truck and sas that. thats why he needs locking hubs

Yep, my dad has too big of a stick up his  about what I do to my truck.  Because the thing is he bought the truck, but I am doing all the modifcations to it.  His concern is that because I didn't pay for it, I don't worry about body damage.  And he won't let me do a flatbed.  So I am going to prove to him that even if I did buy the truck, I am still going to wheel it, and a little bangin on trees doesn't hurt.  It's basically me fighting against my dads power trip.  It's going to cost me the cost of a new truck to get a point across to my dad.  The ironic thing is, If I didn't show this 81 to my dad, he would've never bought it, because he would've never known it was for sale.  So I have an 85 axle and I am looking for a vehicle to put it under.  That seems opposite of a lot of people on this site, including 86sas

hell all i had to do is take my old man o a couple wheelin trips and now he give me money for parts. I'm 23 and payed for it my self, but he loves the wheelin now and ask me all the time what else do you need for that thing  but then he also barrows it too now
