Looks like we will be taking leaving Chico May 23rd first thing in the Morning.
Have a group of 4-5 rigs already committted

You going to try to camp at Fordyce, or there below driveline hill where we camped last year, or try to camp back in at Jackson meadows.?  Would it be worth camping at JM and drive to the trailhead.  Meadow would be nice but unless you get there by midweek you can't find a campsite, or someone is saving them.

Hello Steve shooting for Fordyce in road conditions are clear.
I wish I could leave on 5/22 though I don't want to get there at night. So it looks like Fordyce 5/23.
Rubicon will to packed for my taste!
Working on a trip to rubicon during mid-week to the weekend to finally get to fully explore it.

KYOTA,

Fordyce will likely be the same, get to the cluster :bumpinbutts: are, turn around wheel back, as usual.  I don't think you guys have ever been able to run the whole thing on a holiday weekend.

3-4 days or more would be perfect to see the area around the  Rubicon, other than just the rocks and dust:laugh:  You could probably spend an entire day just exploring the Springs, might actually be bale to cool off in the mineral springs.

since the run isn't "memorial weekend" its self, it shouldn't be to packed

Doof

with the early fire season does anybody think we will be able to have a camp fire?

Snowtoy

Last year we were able to have a fire over MDW, but the trail was closed due to fire hazard the following weekend, more to prevent trail use than actual risk of fire, since they continued to allow CF's at Meadow Lake.  There is a new supervisor for TNF, who has the say over CF use, you will have to contact the the TNF office on Coyote St. in NC to get an update for the fire conditions.  Here is the link http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/tahoe/.

FYI,

I went this past weekend.  Stopped by Fire Dept in Colfax and got a fire permit.  I was told they will probably stop allowing fires by mid June since its so dry this year.  There was still some snow too, but I bet it will all be gone in the next week or so.

Not good from what I saw.  We went down the Pierce loop Friday night and crossed there.  The water was moving fast and pushed us around a bit maybe 2-3 feet deep? My brother and I crossed fine the first time, on the way back my brother stalled, sucked some water and blew his head gasket.  Luckily he got it started enough to cross and I didn't have to winch him across.  I did have to tow him back out to camp though.

Lots of water from the run off all over the trails.  On the actual Fordyce trail we went past What I believe to be dirveline hill, a little before the turn off to go to eagle lakes.?  So we never bothered to go any further up the trail past eagle lake because I didn't want to break our only ride outta there!  So I don't know about the other river crossings.

Damn... sounds pretty intense. Maybe they will lower it for memorial and keep it lowered for the following weekend...

Maybe it wasn't 4 feet maybe 3, either way we wished we hadn't gone across.
But we had a great time anyways.  I would come up memorial day weekend with you guys, but I have to help run the BugOrama here in Sac so I can't.

Do you plan on camping friday then wheeling Saturday or wheeling and camping along the way?

I know a couple great spots to camp there.  Not sure about Cisco Grove but its easy to get there from hwy 80 in Sac.  I go up 80 towards Truckee, Nayack exit is the last gas so fill up there, about 3 more miles and take eagle lakes exit and go left under the freeway.  The sign for the fordyce and the indian springs staging area is about a half mile up on the left.  From there you can take the different trails signal peak to the right and Pierce and fordyce straight, about a mile up Fordyce takes off right and Pierce is straight ahead.  There is great camping at Pierce.

fixed EVERYTHING and them some on the toyota tonight from Hammers.  fawking tight that it only took me 5 hours ans $12 to repair everything that broke from the last trip instead of an entire rebuild like usual, i think i could get used to the D60 stuff.

sooooooo. . .guess ill just see how memorial day at the con treats my truck, if all is well them ill be at fordyce with my truck, kyle (maybe his truck) and. . . . . dun dun duuuunnnn......the 5-0 WILL be there garenteed!

You guys can also camp at Fordyce lake, which will put you about a half mile from the trail, after a water x-ing.  After you cross the creek you can either turn left and loop the trail back to HWY 80 through Eagle lakes then up to Cisco grove and back to Fordyce Lake, or take the trail up to Meadow lake.  If the X-ings are to deep(Fernando should have better info after MDW), you will likely have to go to Meadow so you can run a lot of the trail w/o any river x-ings, otherwise you have D-line hill to the 1st x-ing which was pretty deap last MDW, enough that you could end up sucking in water depending on which way you tried to cross, and of course speed.  They usually don't restrict the flow on weekends(or holidays), the only time that I know they actually restrict flow other than scheduled is for the Sierra Trek, otherwise the flow can change w/o notice.

the first water crossing coming from 80 is always the deepest but if you stay to the right you can hit it above 400cfms,  the last one seems deeper but its just because the water is going way faster and spashes up on your truck and theres waves, plus it will push your truck sideways.  I think the water crossings should be more than dooable by the end of the month

Wasn't that supposed to be the case last year   With shooting for noon, you guys should be there about 3pm:rofl:, still plenty of time to set up camp and go get yourselves in trouble w/a night run(should be a full moon) to Meadow Lake
