Topic: Looking @ 85 ext cab pickup, worth $1200??

I'm looking at an 85 ext cab pickup in my area. It's a carbed 22r. The truck was used as a construction rig so it's beat up, most dents are in the bed, cab in good shape def. needs a hood. some surface rust. 22r was rebuilt but was brought back because of a oil leak between the block and head so they used silicone on the on the outside of the block to patch the leak??!! Then sat for a year.  It did run and drive, 4wd seemed to work ok in low and hi, trans was sloppy. With this bit of info does $1200 sound like a fair price?

i'd pass..... i don't need another headache, but if you plan on redoing stuff, it might be worth it.....

I would not pay $1200 for that, maybe half of that ($600).

I just bought a 1990 toy with rebuilt transmission, bad motor (engines are cheap), good body, and a slightly bent frame for $600.

I also got a blown motor 85 & a rolled 88 (good drivetrain) for $1500 as a package deal, so now I have a perfectly good 85 (except rusty bed) for about $900.

Long story short, I would not pay $1200 for it.

Great! Thanks for the input. I actually offered him $700, I think he took it as a insult. He kept saying he had $1100 in the rebuild.

another person that thinks his beat up old truck is worth a lot just because it has a rebuilt engine. Did you point out that the transmission was sloppy, the body was crap, and the engine was hacked together (at least the oil leak fix was)?

yeah I did, I guess he thinks the motor is in great shape. When I mentioned it had been sitting for a year in my first post I forgot to add that it's still sitting at the shop where he had the work done (he probably still owes them money?). So I don't think he's even looked at the truck lately. When I told him about the patch job and the oil leak he says "oh did I not tell you about that".

I don't know where you live but I have an 85 4runner that runs and drives great with no leaks and a new clutch.  The body was crap so I cut off the back and added a cage. It also has a near perfect frame. I'll sell it for 1000. But I live in Indiana. If your still looking.
