I was wondering if its okay to put 5.29 in my rig before i lift it and put bigger tires on it.

Sure, I ran bald 31's with 5.29's for a few months right after I bought the truck.  :gap:  It helped my tired motor in the hills :driving:

I'd imagine so :yikes:  My truck was revvy enough with 31s and 4.38s!

Sure you can.  Check out that link to see what RPM you'll be turning @ what speed and see if it's something you can live with until you get tires.

You could always buy the 5.29's, put them up by the TV so you could see them everyday until you have money for the tires.  :D

Yep, put the gears on the shelf and wait until you get the tires - Or get a couple spare thirds so you can set the gears up and drop them in when you please...

I have 5.29's in my 87 that is mid-build, still has the 28" tires on it. It's an auto and it starts in second gear by itself, lol. I don't drive it much right now, just run it around the block occasionally to keep the engine and batt fresh. It's too low for the highway for sure, but 31's might be bearable for shorter trips.
