Sleeping bag help

Im looking for a new sleeping bag. My Coleman bag that I have now is rated for 0 degrees but its really cold at temperatures as high as 40. Im looking at a Cabellas bag called Alaskan Guide thats rated at -40, its pricey but sounds like a decent bag. Anybody use a bag that is warm no matter what? I camp in the Sierras so its pretty cold at night in September/October

i have a Moonstone bag. its a 25 degree bag but has kept me warm down to the low single digits. at the round up i slept on a tarp with just this bag and some shorts and a t shirt and was very comfortable

I want impressed with mine, it was the three piece Goretex one, I dont know about FT Knox but Germanys winters arent kind

My mom has an old school army mummy bag.  Picked it up from a surplus store in CO.  That thing is so warm, its crazy.  I've never been able to use it, Its been to hot when zipped up, even snow camping.

just a FYI I have learned from my MC5 adventure    that a bigger bag is not better.   
First night i sleeped in a small bag( uber tight fit my fat )    Granted i was cold it was freezing.
Second night I sleeped in a double bag(for 2 peoples)........  I had plenty of room  but was way colder do 2 my body heat could not be retained in the double bag.

So what im saying is get a bag thats the right size for your body  and not just rating ............

I carry 2 bags - the 1st is my favorite mummy rated at 15° or something - the 2nd is a cheap 40° regular bag

Normally I use the 2nd bag to go under the 1st bag as a pad but if I get cold I just slip the mummy inside of it and I'm good to go.  The double bag routine has saved my butt more than once and it always makes me snicker when my buds get up whinin' about how they couldn't sleep because of the cold...

Very true, my bag now is a large size and I think its part of the problem

  the 3 in 1 bags that fit inside one another are pretty cool.  As previously mentioned I also have a smaller mummy that I can fit inside my rectangular Coleman. It works out well.

I am using a Slumberjack 0* bag great for the price.  A Thermorest pad or something like it helps out a bunch.  Keeping the cold from coming from under you from the ground.  Much better than nothing or a large air mattress.

check calbelas they are have a sale on sleeping bags last i check....the one i got i use all the time in the snow it works great
