Hey guys just a little heads up. I purchased an engine from oregon engines 22re that was supposedly gauranteed for life. I dont even have 4000 easy miles on this engine and the cam and rocker arms have had to be replaced which come to find out wasnt the cam that it states in their ad, timing chain tensioner has come loose, head gasket was ready to fail and the toyota dealer sais it has piston slap. I was sent an email by the owner of oregon engines stating that I could send the motor back to oregon and he would either rebuild junk motor or send me another remanufactured motor and it wouldnt cost me a penny! Well now that hes got the engine in oregon and I am in Iowa he called me and told me that I have to send him money for shipping both ways. I dont know about you guys but I expect to buy an gauranteed engine and have it run for more than 4000 easy miles before I have to renuild it, if I was selling the motor and it was a bad one I sure the heck wouldnt charge somebody 350 dollars to ship it to me. Just my opionion but I would never think of buying anything from this oregon engines again!! :punish: :censored:

Thats BS I'd be f-ing pissed! None of my business but what did the engine cost you?
The guy sounds like a jerk, you should not have to pay shipping for something that should have been done right the first time.
What about small claims court or something?

I am contacting an attorney because I do not trust these motors and do not want to have to take it out again in 4000 miles. I havent even got to beat it yet. I was taking it easy on it because sounded so crappy and plus the breathalyzer.

I wouldnt be surprised if it didnt have half the stuff he said it has in it, If I have to take that engine back I am gonna have to have it dissasembled just to make sure everything is right and has in it what he sais it has in it. If not go to oregon I guess and talk with him face to face, you cant get nothing done over the phone!!!!

Thats too bad. If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself with an FSM, OE Toy parts and watch  every step of the things you cannot do yourself if you are not good buddies with the place that is doing work for you. I've got a place down here in San Fran that can get a Jap 30,000k R series long block for about $500. If you come around on this let me know and I can talk to him for you and maybe get you a deal. Oh, and you will not have ANY problems with a JME (Japan Motor Exchange) Long block. I'm going up there right now to pick up some new Koyo hub bearings and I will see what they have.  :turtle3:
I've got the most liftedest truck in town, that little jap truck done stand no chance gainst my Chevy. My Chevy gots a V8 more lift an bigger tires, and an exhaust system, whats yer tuna can got, a V4, and them tires look like they is offa Saturn Corulla. The dealer instulled my lift, so ya no its done right, you just try to foller me throo them rocks an see what a reel truck can do.

Well, if a motor was not done right it usually pukes early on.  So 4000 miles tells me it was not done right.  Best of luck.  I've had some troubles myself with having engines built.  Since them I do them all myself, its not rocket science assembling an engine.  Just need a good parts source and trustworthy machine shop.

I just hope I can get my money back out of this joker because I do not want to deal with another motor like the last one. I got a good machine shop here in town , I would just like to get a good 22re and build it myself and know it is done right. I should have known better but he had good reviews on ebay.

Only problem with that is they supposedly didn't use a 22r in japan, so you get a 21ru with about 30% less horsepower than the 22r!

When I was looking for a rebuilt motor, I called them.  And I wasn't very impressed with how they handled the phone call!  I asked a question and the guy on the phone would yell the question across the floor to somebody else, and then relay the answer to me.  And when I asked if they had a 22re motor ready to go, they were like we will have to find one first, unless you got one you want built!  If your advertising motors for sale, then you gotta have them on hand first!  The first minute of the call was 50 seconds too long!

Hopefully, he will back it up!  I wouldn't pay more than $1500 for a 22re, unless you order from LCE or DOA, but I've still heard bad things about them too!  I went local and got one from a local guy I forgot about.  And it was complete from oil pan, timing cover, water pump, and a new head w/valve cover for $1350.  And he's already backed up the leaking soft plugs.

and 30% less on a 100hp engine is um.... a 70hp engine

Very good Jimbo! I believe a 22r only makes 96hp though.

I almost baught from them.  I was in a debate between them and rising sun engines out of chico.  They wanted too much for shipping so i went with rising sun, no complaints as of yet.  I still havent put any miles on the thing.  Just thought it was funny they shipped it on a tire (i picked it up from the company).  I drove up there and it was strapped to a tire.  lol but i seriously almost with with oregon engines, except it was going to be more with their shipping costs.

I went thru about the same thing with a "rebuilt". From what I have seen, heard & experienced,  it seems the best replacement 22RE engines are used ( out of wrecked trucks w/less than 100k miles, not running oversized tires). Just pre test for compression (160 PSI,+ or - 10 PSI on all 4). Slap in new timing chain componets w/ steel guides and check the head for corrosion. Should be good for another 150 K miles.

Whatever you do don't start pulling the engine apart yourself.  You are going to have to show that the engine failure was do to a poor rebuild and not driver mistreatment.  I would have the dealership(they should be as impartial as you can get) tear the engine down and verify the poor rebuild for you, along with what performance parts(if any) you were supposed to get with the rebuild and didn't.  Then file a small claims suit against the Oregon Engine Builders in OR, since the transaction took place there and not Iowa(under most state laws). where you will be able to recoup the $2100 cost of the engine, and the difference between the $2100 and the dealership cost, you should also be able to recoup the travel expenses to OR for 2 trips(if you can't file by mail), but not any lost wages.

Contacting an attorney is gong to get expensive really quick, yes the first consultation may be free, but after that expect to pay $150+/hr.  Since you haven't suffered any physical injury using an attorney will likely cost you more than what you would ever recoup from OEB, and could actually end up costing you a lot more.

I wouldn't waste your money flying to OR for a face-to-face meeting, it isn't going to get you any further than you are right now, unless you use the face-to-face trip to file a small claims suit.  The face-to-face could also scare him into refunding your money, i.e,   from his standpoint a guy coming a 1k miles to complain about a crappy motor, may just be foolish enough or have enough extra money to sew using an attorney which will end up costing him a lot more than the $2100 you are asking for.

To find out what your consumer rights are under Iowa state law contact your local free legal clinic, they should be able to advise you on how to best go about resolving your problem.  I would also contact your state better business bureau, they may also be able to help you.
